But I struggle in general to read him.
It seems always the behavior related to societal forms back than, but even his positive emotions are really hard to buy somehow, even when expressed toward 2FL

Now that you mention that: I am currently rewatching some scenes and I really struggle to understand, what is going on with ZYL. I understand there are some scenes where the complex combination of thoughts and feelings he is struggling with … 

I just can not read it … its kinda not understandable … 
Not sure, if this was meant to be so by the director, or if the actor is struggling to express this complexities … or just me struggling to understand.
But I was more reassured through the comments here about his thoughts and feelings around the FL rather than able to see it in his face …

agree, after ep. 33 it feels like she is the only one to be able to cut off everything and have a clean start, ideally going somewhere far far away … 
All the other entanglements seems to be with no way out till everything is broken or destroyed …

Question for those who read the novel (after watching ep. 33) and might treat me to some spoilers:
What happens with the life of FXZ and the mother? Do they achieve any kind of enlightenment in their lives or do they keep going from bad to worse till the very end?

Seems like he is rather blaming FYS, thinking he killed his mother. You remember, they were in the same accident. Even if FYS didn't do it but apparently (doen't know, it wasn't shown in the drama to which extent) he thinks his brother was the reason for his mother's death

agree, this suffering and guessing together, set up by the hole MJTY team, playing with our minds, gives an additional experience to the hole drama.
