If you're reading this before watching the second half of episode 8, please watch until the end of episode 9 and then come back and comment, cuz I'm truly curious and want to have a discussion:
Does anyone else also never trusted Tae Hyung's dad and constantly felt like he didn't feel genuine? And even when it felt like he was genuine, that something just felt off?
Asking cuz I wanna know is it my traumatised ass just being hyper vigilant or is it that the signs were actually there and I just want to hear opinions.
I'm gonna be the small minority to stand up for Hyeon Jin. Girl is just out here trying to live her best life, finally getting her dream job, learning to cope with the grief of her only family member's death, suddenly landing herself with a child she never prepared for nor even thought to want, all of this on top of her first love (that she had remnant feelings for) reappearing in her life. The way she powered through and tackled everything because I WOULD BE HAVING THE GREATEST MELTDOWN OF ALL HISTORY OF MELTDOWNS. What do you mean?! ALL of this??? AT THE SAME TIME?!??!?!?
It's not her fault that she landed her dream job the same time she agreed to take custody of Woo Joo. And it's also so obvious watching everything that girl has serious trauma - she and Se Yeon and Yun Seong mention this multiple times - she hates being weak because she doesn't want to rely on anyone. She grew up only having to rely on her sister, and there were so many flashbacks that showed her hating that her sister constantly had to sacrifice for her. It made sense that she learnt quick not to ask for help from anyone. She even resented help from her sister in the end, because she hated that it felt like she was always being a burden to her sister.
Because of all of these, it makes sense that Yun Seong tries SO HARD to get her to rely on him (even though she never does). She accepts rides from him because he insists, she goes on dates with him at her friend's behest (she mentions feeling heavy around his kindness), she is constantly around him in large part due to work. She has never ever sought him out on her own (she has pushed him away several times but I think she's never outright rejected him because of those remnant feelings she still has - whether those feelings be regret or wonder - sue a girl for having complex feelings why don't we it's 2026 for goodness sake why can't we just be more understanding of how things are never truly just black or white not that it excuses her actions but let's understand where she is?) . HE just always shows up because HE wants to insert himself into her life. We see his knowing looks whenever she is around Tae Hyung because he's grasping at straws - he knows he can't have her but he wants her, so he tries to be even more perfect, even more kind, even more helpful.
(That said, I want to speak in slight defence of Yun Seong because in another drama, he would be such a green flag. Literally didn't give up liking her for the seven years they didn't see each other despite knowing that she lied to him, doing things for her simply because he wants to see her happy and well. He literally is a total simp. But because he's the second male lead, I didn't like him for how he thinks he could disrespect Tae Hyung in the way he talks TO him and ABOUT him to Hyeon Jin. My first real red flag with him came later and a big one was the way he told Hyeon Jin that because he grew up with love, he's more than confident that he can love her the way she needs to be loved - saying this knowing the background that Tae Hyung has with his family. This rubbed me The Wrong Way. It also smells like privilege. He's looking down on Tae Hyung and I do not appreciate it. And the conversations he had with him?? Excuse you sir who gave you the audacity. So yes, I absolutely agree with the frustrations towards him and towards the writers cuz DUDE LEAVE THEM ALONE AND JUST LET THEM BE A HAPPY FAMILY.)
But she's different with Tae Hyung. She cries around him, gets drunk around him (two things that her best friend of TEN YEARS says that she's never seen her do EVEN ONCE), relies on him, allows herself to put down her walls to complain to him about things (the way she doesn't with anyone else - like when he asks what's the matter when she was bullied at work and she told him, or when she had indigestion and he massages her hand and she whines about it hurting in a way she would never with anyone else in the way you know girls only do with people they truly feel safe around), feels relief just by seeing him around. Hyeon Jin actively seeks him out, she waits for him and goes to him for both comfort and to comfort. Girl just had so much going on in her life - WHO HAS TIME TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THESE FEELINGS ARE. Her whole day literally revolves around a little child, housework, and an actual 9 to 6 job. Whoever is dogging on her for not contributing to the little family they built must not have had children.
Which is why, I actually loved that she took her time to realise that she has feelings for him. It took her a while, but she got there eventually. Because she needed to see how he's seeped into every part of her life and she WANTS him there. She needs to understand that when she stepped outside of the daycare only to see Yun Seong and not Tae Hyung that that is her disappointment from wanting him there. I loved seeing all the little interactions - the promises she makes him because she already likes him (but doesn't know it yet), the way she knows he doesn't like waiting and tries her best to not make him wait, finding ways to comfort him when she knows he'll be sad because she KNOWS this man.
I will stand up and say I love their relationship build up, and I love the slow burn.
I nearly gave up on the show because of all the rage I've been seeing on the internet, but I'm glad I listened to my instincts and didn't listen because this relationship has payoff and I'll be here cheering them on until the last episode.
I guess you already read the synopsis, so instead I can tell you they focus more on the romance part than on the…
I think the CEO is suspicious but I feel like he doesn’t have a really good reason to kill one of his artists - like he could’ve just not renewed their contract 🤔
Idk, I feel like everyone is sus, but they all feel like red herrings. Take the ex, for example. I think the earring that she left? I think she DID come that night. But she prolly came, talked to Woo Seong, saw that La-ik was drunk and out cold and left. I think the real murderer came AFTER she left.
I will be SO MAD if they make it such that the murder happened by accident (aka real target was La-ik, accidentally killed Woo Seong, panicked and left). I’ll start a riot and y’all are ALL invited to join me.
But based on what someone said, it probably wasn’t an accident, but it was a singular fatal stab wound straight into the heart and there were no defensive wounds. When I first saw that part, I thought if Woo Seong was maybe drunk too, but then we see flashbacks and realise it could be cuz he was drugged (same drugs found in his body as Jae Hee).
There is also the consideration that the person who killed Woo Seong is different from the one who tried to harm Jae Hee.
I think it would make sense for the CEO to harm Jae Hee because it would tie everything nicely and Jae Hee was threatening the CEO, so it would make sense he retaliated.

hmm maybe it’s because I waited (because I knew I would die having to wait for it week after week) to watch all 9 episodes at once, but I felt like a lot of the middle portion was him exploring his grief about losing his friend, finding healing in someone who believes in the true him, uncovering a lot of the bits of trauma that lead him to the state that he was when he found his friend dead. his mum? insane. his boss? power and money hungry. his band mates? short sighted. his ex? lost. I felt more and more pain for this poor, tortured soul. how could he not have a single good thing until his best friend and even that ended in murder. that is so much trauma to have to deal with. of course, sena did a lot more in terms of investigating the murder (that IS her job), and looking into different aspects of it, but I felt like the character growth in la-ik, the way he found strength and comfort and solace in her belief of him, to eventually work his way up to RETURN TO THE HOME HIS BEST FRIEND WAS MURDERED IN (in episode 10), is super impressive. that healing trajectory is so necessary to make the story relatable. the way he paused and steeled himself as he looked at the floor that initially was just a pool of his best friend’s blood before he started cleaning the house 🥺😭 I could never. that said, any guesses on who the murderer is??? it’s anyone’s guess at this point.

lol are we even watching the same show - so much of the plot centers around the murder. the romance bit is a slowwww burnnnnnn (but honestly that’s the way I like it.)

I completely agree with you. And it rightly should be illegal AND a huge scandal in every country for workplace abuse. Unfortunately, every country has their own cultural norms and work a little differently. I skip those scenes too, because it's unbearable.
Actually, if you're interested, here's an example of the culture of hierarchy in Korea: https://youtu.be/Bw_b8fl0JEI?si=PK9FMdTZvCGivvjw It's a camera prank done on trainees through a survival show and watch how the girls volunteer to take the blame for something they didn't do in order to protect a person of higher rank than them. It speaks so much of their character and the culture of the country.
Does anyone here know if it's really legal for a boss to abuse his subordinate in SK? It happens in so many dramas…
No, it isn't legal. But it's a complicated issue because in Korea, they're very big on hierarchy and on connections. Most of the time it is EXPECTED for a HUGE amount of respect (to the point of covering for their mistakes to make sure that they look good) to the boss because the boss is considered the face of the company (if the boss looks bad, it makes the company look bad, therefore if you want to keep your job, you better make sure your boss looks good, even if it's at the expense of yourself). But I suppose there's an amount of power that comes with being in a status like that and people tend to abuse that power because they realise they're allowed to get away with it. If you've watched many kdramas, you'd see that the rich and powerful tend to form a network with each other to cover up each other's scandals so that they can keep pulling string and staying in power and have personal gain. It's a huge reason why corruption is still such a big problem in Korea. The dramas tend to be a reflection of what actually happens in Korea. I think until they solve the problem of irresponsible hierarchy and abusive patriarchy, it's going to still be a prevalent issue.
Where are you watching this? And does it have good subtitles?
She never cheated on the ML. Both kisses by the 2ML were initiated by him and she never liked it both times. But to explain what @dooh was saying about "kinda in a relationship with 2ML", that's because of what happened with the timeline and she ended up having to live her life twice. Don't worry, nothing happens that counts as cheating, and the moment she got her memories back, she distanced herself from 2ML and broke up with him. Hope you don't not watch the show!! It's really really good. I've watched it three times back to back now. The first time ten years ago, and just completed watching it a third time just today.
