Feeling iffy about the casting for the wiley Zhang Yuehui. I'm not familiar with the actor, but his filmography seems quite thin for such an important role.
This novel kept my attention and felt well-rounded. The casting looks promising. I've seen some fans say they think a BE would be fitting for the drama, but I'll hope for an explicit HE! 🤞
Love doesn't really fit in between the 230 chapters. In my opinion, the male protagonist is a one-sided lover…
My issues with the romance aren't the pacing or lack of focus. I agree with your points. I just think the revenge is where the author particularly excels & the other plots are often trite and, even at times, ridiculous in comparison.
I'm ~230 chapters into the translation & the story is dragging. I need a break.
There's much to work with. Hopefully the novel will receive a lot of polishing & reworking for the screen.
The courtyard politics & revenge scheming (which is the bulk of the story that i've finished) is well-crafted. But the other plots, including the romance, are quite poorly written, imo.
Now this is what shipping is supposed to feel like, nothing is set in stone, and it's a fun war among us
As frustrating as it is, it is nice to have some doubts about endgame for once in a kdrama. Makes the scenes between the leads and other potential love interests feel less pointless than usual.
I'm wondering if we're supposed to think right now that these characters haven't seen each other since jonghui ran away, but that's not the case. It has probably still been years but maybe not 7. They need to explain the aftermath of the stabbing, and yeongrye telling jonghui to run wasn't the most logical decision. Maybe she came back?
seems like they added hyeon, seongcheol and yeongsik as Main Roles as well. dont know if it's from official or…
I dont think MDL's roles in the cast listings are always 100% accurate, and I'd guess this change is unofficial.
An actor's role in a TV series (at least in hollywood) has to do with how many episodes they are in, which determines their salary. But actors can also be given certain titles as a courtesy. When Kim Junghyun was cast, media reported he was a "special appearance/special guest star" - which would typically mean he was in fewer episodes but they are giving him the respect (& maybe higher pay) of a seasoned actor.
I kind of doubt these changes to main role on the MDL mean much, unless they were inaccurate originally. Seongcheol, hyeon, etc, will likely continue to have the amount of screen time of a support or guest role.
someone mentioned this on twitter and i asked another person here if it's true and they said no... these girls…
I agree they could have easily made a few changes to make it less morally questionable. Especially since this one looks like it's going to be so passionate. I was really looking forward to these leads together, but I will just let others enjoy it, lol.
they weren’t raised as siblings if you read the novel, her mother didn’t like ml and always kept them away…
Each viewer has their own boundaries. Again from my perspective, it crosses the line enough if just the female lead viewed him as a brother for 18 years. From that quick preview, she seems quite attached to him despite the years apart - not like a stranger. My observations could be wrong, but I'll play it safe & skip.
Raised together as siblings until age 9, separated when parents divorced, she learns they are not biologically related at age 18 (according to the novel synopsis). Reunited not long after, romance begins. To me, this is 100% incestuous, and I will have to skip. Disappointing, as it looks beautifully filmed.
Are Mu Yao and Liu Fu Yi supposed to be useless and empty characters???? Miao Miao is supposed to be this weak…
Right? Like, I get that miaomiai and the novel readers said the ML/FL were flat and outshined by the 2nd leads. But I thought miaomiao entering the story was sort of meant to fix the plot, including the "lead couple." There really hasn't been much improvement.
My friend & I were also noticing their odd lack of reactions this ep.
classmate tbh, I think all characters are people Miaomiao knew at some point in her life, so their visuals are…
Interesting idea! Or maybe they're people the author knew. The desire for ziqi to protect his sister could relate to the author's real life experience. And miaomiao may have been sucked into the novel because of her unknown past with author. Maybe the image of her dad is there because the author was in miaomiao's life when the tragedy happened. We'll learn soon enough!
I've really been enjoying this series & able to tolerate every little interruption and foiled plan until now. Episode 19 felt mostly like pointless filler. Even the epilogue had no substance. And is there any reason Tang Yang couldn't have taken 1 minute to call Jiang Shiyan?!
