yeah! i really love the drama Eternal Love, even though there are a few parts i don’t like. for example, the CGI was pretty bad, and honestly, i didn’t really enjoy the second couple’s story (Bai Fengjiu and Dong Hua) in this version, even though i do love their story in the novel and their own drama. but the main couple, Bai Qian and Yehua? and the world building? the side characters? i’m absolutely obsessed! i’ve rewatched it so many times over the years haha.
the scene where the female lead, who lost her memory, ends up taking her own life because she’s so stressed in the heavenly realm then later, when she returns to her true form, remembers everything, and takes back the eyes that the villain stole from her was so satisfying. total badass moment!
it’s a spoiler, i know, but i don’t think it really matters, because after i told that part to one of my friends in real life, they actually got interested and ended up loving the drama too! and the OSTs are just top-tier. even if you don’t understand the lyrics, you’ll still feel the emotion in every song.
Are the other shows sequels? Pillow book and…I’m confused a bit.
the drama Eternal Love is based on the first book of the Three Lives Three Worlds series. that book mainly focuses on the love story between Bai Qian and Yehua. however, the drama producers wanted to include the story of the main couple from the second book (Bai Fengjiu and Dong Hua), but they didn’t have the copyright for it. so they created a spin-off storyline for that couple within Eternal Love.
a few years later, the second book The Pillow Book was officially adapted into a drama titled Eternal Love of Dream. but since Eternal Love aired first, a lot of people mistakenly thought Eternal Love of Dream was just a spin-off for Bai Fengjiu and Dong Hua. in reality, ELOD is the one that actually follows the original book.
if you’re wondering about the watch order, you should definitely start with Eternal Love. hope this clears up the confusion!
While I understand why some might *feel* Ni Ni is underrated—especially if they’re outside China—the data…
Agreed. Ni Ni has never been underrated. She's an A-list movie actress with solid resources. It's just a personal choice that she does more movies than dramas. Plus she doesn't want to take idol drama path, only take main theme/serious dramas.
time to binge watch
