The scene that made me tear up the most was when Sang Tae told his brother that he wanted to buy a car so they wouldn't have to keep moving. People who are autistic have different ways to show their love to those they care about and that really touched me. When he said Gang Tae was a "close stranger"...my heart :'( @kimchi_zu2on sums it up very well about how even though Gang Tae truly cares for his brother, he probably holds a bit of resentment towards him because taking care of Sang Tae held him back from a lot of things (relationships, jobs, etc).
Kim Soo Hyun did a very good job portraying his character. His eyes are so expressive and resemble someone whose jaded and bogged down by life. He can't look Moon Young directly in the eyes, not only because she resembles the girl from his childhood, but because it's like staring at his own reflection -- staring into his past. Instead of looking at it and confronting it head-on, he chooses to run away. Like Moon Young's book "The Boy Who Fed On Nightmares," in order to truly attain happiness, he has to confront the pain from his past. But he doesn't, which is why he will keep running until there's no place left to go.
And can we just give a standing ovation to all the Moon Young scenes? Seo Ye Ji is so versatile -- she can be funny as hell (deer scene, "i want to sleep with you" scene) but can also break your heart (sleep paralysis scene).
ships aside (my god i cant handle the cuteness of wintergarden, minha and seokhyung, ikjun and songhwa) i just wanna say how proud i am of jaehak. it wasn't an easy thing to do and it was humiliating on his part. this paralleled the patient saying that he didn't want the procedure to be done because he felt humiliated. the scene where he got the strawberries made me tear up cause imagine the emotions he was going through -- relief, embarassment, happiness, etc. this drama keeps getting better and better and aside from our leads, the side characters are also getting development and we get to empathize them as well.
idk about you guys, but I don't think that the main leads have strong chemistry, I just hope that the second half…
i feel like individually, the leads are interesting since they have the support of the plot and the side-characters. however, when they come together it falls flat. like others, the foundations of their relationship isn't developed to its full potential and it's such a waste because there is chemistry. for me, what keeps me watching is the engaging story since it's doing a good job keeping us on our toes. humour-wise, the yeong and eunsup dynamic are carrying it on their back (i love them so much <3). and same, i hope that the writing for the romance gets better, but also i'm crossing my fingers that they don't screw up the plot in the process. my expectations aren't as high for this drama as they were in the beginning, but i still don't want it to be a big disappointment in the end.
i don't know if anyone's mentioned this but do you guys think yeong got swapped out with eun sup when they were younger?? since we did see this possibility with shinjae...but i might be reaching. then again we don't know much about yeong's backstory enough, but i still can't shake off the fact that the young unbreakable sword became so rigid...yes maturity can play a big role and serving as the king's right-hand man requires this kind of personality. you would think he'd still preserve a bit of what he had younger under all those uptight layers.
episode 8 was seriously taxing on my emotions. it was funny, thanks to ikjun burning his fingers then it made me emotional when baby hun passed away, then anxious because of minha (the poor girl was super overworked), then heartwarming when the patients all got their respective closures. i don't think i can count how many times i've cried on both hands because of this drama. ikjun would have to burn the toes on his feet.
and i hope God gives andrea his vocation to be a doctor soon...and to get with dr jang!!
it's not transmigration, but someone WRITING about it. in the opening of episode one, we're introduced to zhang qing, a uni student whose writing a story about "having a second chance in life" and his narrative is this man from modern day gets incarnated into a child named fan xian of a historical time.
In Sky Castle, EVERYTHING tells a story — from the actor/actresses' micro-expressions, camera-work, music, setting...it's just so satisfying. Thank you for this great article that highlights the symbolism conveyed in certain scenes. Like you, the part where Seunghye sledgehammers that darned study room was one of my favourites as well!
I keep checking for this drama to be subbed. I hope they make an English subtitle.
I'm glad I'm not alone on this one. Right now I'm just watching it raw and relying on my minimal Chinese listening skills LOL. I hope DF, Viki, or a subbing site would pick this drama up because it's really, really good.
The first episode was really good! Can't wait for more. The only thing that bothered me just a bit is that I couldn't…
Exactly, it's like she's hiding so much behind that smile...Judging from the trailer and the foreshadowing (when she asked her sisters if she got lost when she was younger), this drama might be darker than we imagined.
