You can say The novel (from which this drama was adaptation) took inspiration from Qiao Sisters, their husbands,…
Anyway, sorry for the late reply. I was busy the last 2 days. I've not been feeling very well, had some stomach poisoning issues.
I'll try to explain my reasonings for certain characters, but remember it's all just a possibility, no way to know for sure, because the whole story is just a fiction.
Wei Shao's character, resembles Sun Ce, for me because, like in history, Sun Ce (who married Da Qiao), was a formidable warlord, who's driven by a burning desire for revenge. They're both battle warlords who were had really bad childhood traumas. But then, he married Xiao Qiao, in which, he'd step into the narrative of Zhou Yu, who also happened to be a powerful military leader. But then, as a leader of the Wei family/clan, he embodies the role of Cao Cao. The funny thing is, the characters used in Qiao, and Wei, also happened to be the same characters for the Qiao family and Wei clan's name in history.
I've just finished Episode 16, and I think Su Er Huang resembles Cao Cao's wife, Queen Bian, who later becomes the first Empress Dowager of Cao Wei.
And Li Su, the person Wei Shao killed to avenge the killing of his family. In history, Lisu served Dong Zhuo, but he was part of a plot to assasinate Dong Zhuo after having served him. He also tried to persuade Lv Bu to betray and kill his adoptive father. Li Su's name is pretty much linked to betrayal and upheaval that marked the end of the Han Dynasty. I think the Li Su in this drama is used not for his history accuracy, but instead, to deliberately evoke cruelty and also betrayal, and possible disloyalty. Li Su, who brought the end of Dong Zhuo and Han, would also possibly bring the end of Qiao in this drama? I'm not sure, coz I haven't watched till the end, but I doubt Wei Shao would kill the entire Qiao tribe now, would he? Please don't spoil it for me.

good morning.
I can't answer you regarding Liu Yan / Liu Yao, coz I've only completed episode 8, and I don't think his character appeared yet.
so for Wei Shao's advisor resembling Si Mayi or Zhu Ge Liang, I'm not sure about Si Mayi, but Zhu Ge Liang is renowned for his signature post with the fan. He uses his fan to intimidate both allies and enemies, and uses it to help him with thinking and planning. In Chinese literature, when we talk about a wise man using a fan, it's almost instant that we think of Zhu Ge Liang.
as for Chinese censorship board, I don't think they'd censor anything that's fictional that's inspired by historical events. They only censor things that they think would jeopardize/threaten public harmony. A fiction based on an inspirational history event is pure entertainment, and can also bring good educational value, to bring more interest to people to learn about history, so China wouldn't censor things like this.

oh, interesting. it's ok for this spoiler, as it's expected. Xiao Qiao did marry Zhou Yu, but somehow, I think Wei Shao resembles Sun Ce more. Like we both mentioned, this is purely fiction, but a very interesting how all these characters resemble those characters from history.do you happen to be Chinese? I'm Malaysian, but of Chinese ancestry, 5th generation Malaysian Cantonese, and fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.
anyway why I think Wei Shao resembles Sun Ce more. Sun Ce lost his father in a battle when he was young. in this drama, Li Su, killed his father. Li Su, in history, was the owner of Chi Tu Ma, the famous horse that could run 1000 li (500km) in a day. that horse was later taken by Lv Bu, Cao Cao, Guan Gong, and died starving itself.
and since you mentioned and spoiled that Bi Zhi worked for Wei Shao later on, sounds like he's Zhou Yu? this drama swapped their husbands? maybe coz Da Qiao was initially supposed to marry Wei Shao in the beginning, but ran away with Bizhi?
and since you brought up Wei Shao resembling Cao Cao, it does make a lot of sense too. but again, Zhu Ge Liang didn't work for Cao Cao,but Liu Bei.

yeah it's not 100% accurate. I suspect Wei Shao's advisor, with the fan he's holding, depicts the same role as Zhu Ge Liang.
but Wei Shao's character is just like Sun Ce.
the story looks like it's inspired. I'm only 8 episodes in.
the Li Su he killed, happened to have the same name as the one from 3 Kingdoms, and he had a horse Shi Tu Ma. I think Da Qiao married the guy who could train horses, he might actually get that horse? I'm not sure.
it's a very interesting take.
there are a lot of references, although different names, and some similar, I find this adaptation very interesting. reminds me of my younger days studying Chinese literatures.
for those who understands Mandarin, the words they used are very meaningful. not sure what the English subtitles would have translated them to be, because I watch them in Chinese subs.
So, 455 people suddenly go missing in Korea, and nobody bats an eye? Only those who won, and those who are involved happened to know of its existence, but relatives of 455 others don't give a shit? Every time there's a winner, there's 454 others dead. As far as we're we know, this is the at least the 3rd time the game had held its place, and there's at least 1000+ people dead/gone missing from the community.
And now, they're trying to make Squid Game USA? C'mon...
Season 1 was epic. Season 2, meh. Season 3, absolute trash/garbage. Waste of time.
456 entering the game, sacrificing himself for the baby, only to achieve nothing. He was supposed to end the game, but instead. he was being stupid and failed to achieve anything at all.
ML should have known that 001 is an insider, from his experience with Ganbu in season 1.
no ending
1st season had that shock factor, and this one lost it all. so predictable.super disappointed and waste of time only good part was 1st episode Gongyu, great acting.
disappointed with GitHyun, he seems like a dumbed down idiot this season.

I thought season 1 Squid Game was slightly better. but season 2 is absolute garbage.
watching season 2 now.
is it good? yes. but not better than Squid Game IMHO
