i appreciate that about this series yes, and if your aim was to tell me theres more to it than my pet peeve trust me i know. thats why im still watching. however the pet peeve remains. i wouldn’t be able to get through any anime if i couldnt see past my pet peeves. dont worry, ill still likely enjoy it beyond that element since thats how it usually goes for me.

i think this is good in many ways but i really dont like the characters enough. idk why, some things i dont connect with well, this is such a case. it all feels flat

no matter how strongly expressed, an opinion is still just an opinion for any reasonable being. who aims to “dictate” anything while expressing an opinion? i sure dont.

also, i reiterate, it wasnt all of japans culture idk how you extrapolated that. it was about this facet of it. and expressing desire/frustration that this facet would evolve isnt overstepping. its just an opinion. i have no power, japan doesnt give a crap about me and my frustration and i already expressed if its too much for me i might drop it. see? how i didnt expect “contrast” or japan to change for me? i just expressed a frustration. again idk how you extrapolated so off mark i feel ive tried to convey all of this since the start.

well regardless thank you for the opportunity to clarify my stance since its clearly liable to be misunderstood.

my opinion on adult themes is that they stop being anything complex the moment the author doesnt engage with them complexly.

i want a variety of stories, i enjoy dark mature explorations that have something meaningful to say and dont just add sensational scenes as superficial decoration.

you assume i must like ONLY one type of protagonist to avoid engaging with the criticism i have of this show, you keep making it about japan’s culture broadly (even tho i keep correcting you) because that is easier for you to defend. but its never japan’s whole culture that i criticized. ive been clear on that from the get go.

also i never said its just bl, i mentioned my vast anime watching background for a reason that is not by a large margin bl.

no fiction isnt endorsmend, but how you depict it in your fiction could be. and this is by far not the first time ive seen a minor+adult relationship in a bl where the predator is portrayed as if he is a kind, thoughtful, sexual mentor that is a neutral to positive experience for the minor. THAT, is the issue. when you start portraying these fuckers as willing to “gentlemanly” step aside because they have “wisdom” to know the kid they are sexual with needs someone their own age and allowing them to “choose”. all these ways of portraying predators made me think so, not simply that its fiction.

also im not speaking about the culture as a whole, just these tired elements of it, which all cultures have. i just happend to expose myself to massive amounts of this culture because there is that much to love about it. im sure youd agree theres still room for criticism of any culture right? and exactly, there are things i disagree with as well as many i love, and im expressing both. my comment is by far not “this exists therefore author condones”, its more “this is depicted this way, and i think its damaging”, leaving the author’s intent altogether out of it. i think if you saw my comment as that one dimensional you only picked up the key words. this criticism comes from a place of love for japans culture. i want them to evolve in how they rep minor+adult relationships and such. that is all.

im so close to dropping this. and be done with japan media. ive spend 20 years watching it only to see it never evolve, and be pathetically self serving and uncritical with what they are promoting. there are great stories there if you dig past this pollution but im at my limit

generally ive come to love Japanese bl, and i come from an intense anime watching background, so i say this with my whole chest:

can japan stop normalizing adults x highschoolers sexual relationships?! its appalling that its still going on, is japan incapable of moving on from the same toxic tired damaging tropes that were ubiquitous in anime 20 years ago?!


forgive my frustration, but im so tired of otherwise great stories normalizing uncritically demeaning fanservice for women, as well as these relationships between minors and adults which never get treated with the gravity they deserve and most times end up almost being presented as a positive transitional experience. like what the fuck

the clothing budget must be in the dump, because why are their uniforms jacket lapel piping look like its poorly hot glued on

as someone whos never watched vertical short dramas of any kind, the editing that resulted form them sticking this together is jarring and unpleasant. im not going to start watching shot dramas anytime soon, i dont like this despite liking aspects

romance where? seriously. love being part of the character’s story in some form doesn’t make a story part of the romance genre. not all love stories even are romances.

that said this is a great movie, very compelling and well acted.

this is good! i like this pair they are good at acting and i liked both their dramas

ive hard someone say this is better than “love like the galaxy” and many others and my mom is watching Pursuit of Jade and is caught up (having loved “love like the galaxy” even though not from the get go) and she says its nowhere near that good of a story/writing.

what am i to expect? hype of so high my expectations went with it. will i be disappointed?

im not against depicting insecure people, or depressed people or both. but its insulting when you only depict those sides of them! as someone who has been both and each at different times, this is an absurd reductive portrayal, that japan loves to stuff into as many stories as possible.

japan loves a confident intesting character falling for the most insecure, depressed, nothing burger of a character that cannot stop a moment disparaging themselves, leaving no room for us to know more.

like… how am i supposed to buy that? how am i suppose to interpret a confident nicely formed character falling in love with that? it starts to become less romantic and more disturbing the more i try. like what is he seeing in this nothing pathetic character? it almost feels predatory in an emotional sense, are you looking for someome to constantly reiterate how much below you they think they are?

this had potential

huge togawa carry. this is nothing without him. shima’s character and performance from the actor are entirely subpar. this benefits too much form lack of close-ups because that actor is so weak.
