full of romantic situations ✨
this is one of the most romantic dramas with huge romantic tension and many romantic/sexy scenes!it seems perfectly cast, and strong fast paced start getting the leads together to create the dynamic we are all looking forward to see developing!
these actors arent among the best at their craft but when perfectly cast that becomes undetectable and i think this is such a case. the female lead ive not seen in a lead performance before so im pleased she’s balancing the aspects of her character so well. shes a good actress overall having seen her before in Blossom In Adversity.
Now thats its over i can say its a great series, but with some minor flaws. its still fave of 2025!

want bucket loads of romantic scenes? this is your show!!
this story is funny, romantic and lovely. the FL has a unique funny personality, the actress is expressive, beautiful and funny and i think this performance and casting is intergral to why this show works so well.the ML is a ruthless lord and somewhat of a child and grows a lot due to the relationship he formed with the FL. that part is very well done and heartwarming.
their chemistry is great, their scenes are going to give you butterflies and the story is solid adressing the dark underside of what it could mean to have a race who’s blood is miraculous to outsiders.
will add more thoughts when this series concludes.

little empress was the mvp
The ML makes this show! Standout performance. The FL is a Disney princess but make her incredibly badass. With that said, the show had slow, dragging moments. The FL became a bit boring to watch in the latter half of the series and my investment went to the little empress. I truly love that girl and wish we could get a proper focus on such a character in a drama someday. Found her relationship with the emperor to be heartwarming and somewhat exciting due to tension. Her scenes with the emperor were my favorite things about the latter half of the series. Was this review helpful to you?
overhyped, bad lead actress
i mean, the female lead is pivotal in this story and they cast someone who cannot deliver the level of acting required. how disappointing.the male lead was great, he managed to impress me because his role is inherently stiffer. im glad i watched so much of it for the lead male actor. ill be following their career in the future and look forward to a pairing between him and a better actress who can convey what this drama tried but ultimately only half succeeded to.
the plot i liked but the female lead is truly pivotal and the plot is often let down by her performance. on paper though its a great historical story.

flawed, but lots to love
it started stronger than it ended, and it’s undoubtedly a flawed execution but i stillencourage you to try it. there’s so much here that works. the leads have buckets of chemistry, they act well, their characters are genuinely cool, the ideas of the plot are nice even if the execution leaves to be desired, its shot beautifully, etc.
the male lead is a joy to watch in this, very good actor. i look forward to any other of his projects in the future.
consider all these things, and if you like the story of mulan, watch it!

A very romantic, superficially written yet very well produced drama
⚪️ The good:This is loaded with swoony, romantic, steamy longing and scenes. The actors are impeccably cast and deliver outstanding chemistry. The ML is the absolute standout of this series. The actor will captivate you and make you fall in love with their love.
⚪️ The bad?:
Is the second half. This is where the writing cant follow through on what it sets up for itself. This is where characters reveal themselves to be conveniently smart or stupid for the ease of the writing staff. This is where it becomes apparent this is a superficially written love story.
⚪️ In summary however,;
This is still very enjoyable if you can meet it where it’s at. Don’t expect it to delve deeply even into the serious details its put forth and you’ll be fine!
⚪️ My main issue with the second half:
Was the aftermath of the separation arc.
Even if i get over the abandonment post-accident and only consider what happens after, things still (in my eyes) have been written poorly. They have made Zhao into someone you simply cannot be in a mature relationship with. He will stonewall you the moment he has a major setback and you’ll live your life in a state of perpetual anxiety whether he may abandon you again if things get bad enough. He keeps not telling her anything, whenever he has the option he just lies or omits. Theres implied growth at the very end but no true example of it.
Also Zhao, if you can only see this girl as an inept child even when she is 26, how dare you feel romantically for her? Why is he in love with someone he keeps seeing and treating as nothing but a child?!
Also Mu is an idiot or very intelligent depending on what the plot needs. She could intuit and deduce like the best of them in most of the first half only to be completely stunted by the writer in the latter half. What do you mean you only put it together that your entire support system in Thailand had to be conspiring to lie to you?
As for the dog, they never mentioned when Zhao was given him so i dunno if it was months or years ago. Presumably months but idk.
Im not saying he shouldn’t have sent her away to Canada. Its good for the story that he did, i have issues with the writing of the aftermath. How it should have impacted Mu, the fact that Zhao keeps doing stuff like that even after they reunite, the lack of gravity in how they handle these dynamics, and so on. On an emotional level the characters acted how it was convenient for the writers, not true to what was happening (at least not fully true).
I think the actors, especially the ML, were so good for their roles that its easy to forgive some of the issues.
Im not unable to like something flawed, i totally can. And i like this a lot despite some disappointment. Not 10/10 but i still want more like this production quality, casting, chemistry, intense romance/longing.

stardard. this series is nothing special…
… and many elements have aged atrociously. Consider me someone who appreciates the fact that the ML is somewhat sex interested (compared to other cdrama) but did we have to take it all the way to no consent? Then there’s the obvious, all effects and even stuntwork aged like milk, to the point of silliness. The FL is such a poorly executed character, it reads as if her personality became as soft or hard as the writer needed instead of any natural development or growth from experience.
Seriously this drama is standard, the flood of 10/10s is odd but maybe at the time this came out it seemed a cut above the rest? I imagine that has to be it. Watching it in 2025, with a current lens, not worth it one bit.
I see a lot of praise for Yang Mi’s acting and that is utterly unwarranted. She is competent at best, ridiculous at worst: the innocent girl bits while pretending to be a male desciple in particular were a feast of cringe and mind boggling character choices. It was someone’s idea that she should be acting like a 10 year old girl while we are told shes passing as a male desciple with that behavior and mannerisms.
If you watch it and dont mind aspects i mentioned you might love it. Perhaps it’s worth a try for most.

get past ep5, and its good! slightly overhyped
i think the acting of the FL was on the weak side, and she was miscast 50% of the way because she never had the range to play both versions of her character and neither did she have the gravitas to convincingly portray her original/pre-reincarnation self.the ML is well cast, and does a good job. he is a better actor than the FL bit not anything special. he is handsome and pretty ofc and thats a plus.
they do have chemistry, and this has loads of scenes of them together.
this is a fun show with a good plot. its stuck the landing better than much better shows, unfortunately for me. there’s a good enough reason it’s so often recommended!

its kinda bad but also good?
Only about 40% of the cast can act, and it’s low budget and wonky in execution but ADDICTIVE AND FUN ultimately.Love the main 4 actors, even when their acting is questionable. Chi Cheng is the best, the standout of the series. He makes the show. The actor deserves a great career ahead of him and I’m rooting for him with all my heart! I wonder how much better it would have been if Wu Suo Wei’s actor could actually act at all. Of course most of us can get past that cos they look so good together!!
