BUT that’s the charm of this drama—it’s kinda black comedy at its core, and it even feels like some sort of parody or satire. And because of that, it was weirdly satisfying when Nan Heng finally kicked his brother and cousin’s asses at the end of the ep 😂 His true nature is so welcomed now.
He’s been through it his whole life, and now they’re finally giving us just enough backstory to justify why he’s so savage. I don’t think this drama is trying to paint any character as the ultimate villain—they’re all gray in some way. Even the emperor… I’m sure they’ll throw in some tragic excuse for his nonsense too 🙄
This drama land really lets the wildest, maybe even painful stuff happen in a silly, comic way and just says, “it’s fine, everyone’s got trauma” lol. And honestly… it’s a new style, a fresh take in C-dramas—and I’m so interested!
