It feels different from what I expected from description, two brothers competing for FL but from your review it looks like
Two FL fight over a boy who isn't even worthy of fighting
Like you said yours ML befriend Shen zhen first then he fall in love with FL, ML is key that drives Shen zhen to extreme when she already had so much inferiority complex from FL, boy that come to her first doesn't fall for her because she is maids daughter and fall for masters daughter

I also believe director and script writer were fan of shan zhen because she is character with 100X more emotions then all other characters combined.

What happened to SML was he not even part of anything significant

You would be ok if
Crown prince and Hana switch there ages
Crown prince 24
Hana 14
Normal in that era.

It would have look normal if gender were switched
Older ML in that timeline marrying a 15-16 year old girl was common as going movies with friends
