Built on sand

The Glory is a slick, well-produced show that does exactly what it sets out to do: keep you watching. The pacing is tight, the tension high, and there's a real pull to each episode's ending. On those terms, it delivers.

But a 6/10 is where I land, and the reason is mostly that the story is very black-and-white and overdramatic. The antagonists start as cruel bullies in their youth and grow into vile adults, with no nuance in between. As a viewer, you can only ever root for the protagonist, but unfortunately her revenge plan relies on several plot holes and convenient developments the story never bothers to address. In the second half, a romance is introduced where the heroine's love interest very conveniently happens to share a similar trauma and desire for revenge, and can assist her directly. A lazy twist that feels unconvincing, especially as the two leads have little to no chemistry.

In short, The Glory is the kind of drama you enjoy in the moment and forget almost immediately after. Entertaining enough, but built on sand.

A little gem

I started this drama expecting a fast thriller with plenty of action. What I found instead was something even better: a mystery that also works as a sharp character study, one that left me thinking after almost every episode.

The production is strong, with beautiful dark visuals and actors who are allowed to look like real human beings with skin texture, free from the usual smoothing filters.

What makes Regeneration stand out is its ensemble of morally grey characters. No one in this story is completely innocent or straightforward, and the same person can look entirely different depending on how you interpret the events. There’s no romance here, or at least nothing swoony or sentimental. But the characters aren’t desexualized either, they feel like adults with real lives behind them.

After a very effective twist, the story slows down a little, and the final episode may leave a slightly odd aftertaste. Still, this show does more in 10 episodes than most dramas manage in 40.
