Binged it in 2 days... I think the writing for several characters are not as great, and the FL was so unbearable until 20 something episodes. It uses the same old tropes and cliches but it was enjoyable. Solid 4/5 for me. Although, the ending was so anti-climatic wtf lol
Completely agree with everything you said. Both actors did well but the characterization of YY is really bad with…
Yes, the lead couple hard carried this drama for me lol. YY's characterization was pretty solid, but after he avenged his mother's murder, it gone downhill. Seemed like the writers didn't know how to write Feng Lanxi/Hei Fengxi anymore which is unprofessional but also strange, because by doing that, no characters got any benefit from it.
I really really love this drama a lot, and enjoyed it throughout. The dynamics between the two leads are what I was looking forward to during most of the episodes. Zhao Lusi's acting in this drama was a lot better than what I was expecting to see, and she portrayed the character really really well! Yang Yang is one of my favorite actors so I initially started watching this for him. His acting I feel like is definitely also much better than what I was expecting. I think he also did an amazing job at portraying his character.
I gave it 4/5, though, because the script is pretty badly written for many episodes. And the pacing was very strange. They dragged and dragged the Yong Palace politics with Queen Baili, which really could be cut down by at least 2 episodes, because before that, the cheating scandal took up almost 3 episodes. After that, it's almost like the writers were like "fuck, we only got 5 episodes left, let's just cram everything in and put it to 2x speed lmao." I would much preferred if they shortened the Yong politics, and put more time and focus on the Da Dong politics and scheming instead.
All in all it's a very solid drama. Hoping to see more of Zhao Lusi and Yang Yang in their future works.
Currently watching ep25, and I’ve been enjoying the past couple of episodes since they left Yongzhou. Definitely way more interesting than the politics. But the plot is basically another one of those “fight for the throne” story and I’m not sure how I feel… Are we gonna see Hei Fengxi in action again?
can anyone who finished this drama already tell me if the FL's acting get better? i cannot stand her acting in the 1st episode :\ ji chang wook is the only reason keeping me going at this point...
When I first watched this back in 2016, I was soooo drawn in by the plot; I had never seen anything similar before this. Also fell in love with Yang Yang, I mean who didn't lol. But, after rewatching this show last summer, I noticed how there was none, absolute 0 chemistry between the two leads. It didn't help that she looked SO stiff, like a cupboard standee, during kiss scenes. I guess when I was younger, I was only paying attention to their visuals and the storyline, and didn't care for acting lol
Do you guys think it's worth it to get Tencent VIP for this show? I'm watching on Netflix and stuck on ep18 until next week, plus it's like 8 episodes behind :\
