A unique action story, with stunning cinematography and effects, seamless editing -even in the brilliant use of subtitles and credits- and a perfectly-fitted electronic score. Zany and ironic, an acidic social comment on social isolation thoroughly enjoyable!
Another great article, my friend ❤ Your comments are totally on point, I agree with almost all of them (cough cough, Mr Sunshine). If the story and characters are well-written and if both partners are of legal age, then age gap doesn't bother me at all (though I'm a bit sensitive in cases of a student-teacher romance).
A brilliant and strong social commentary about the masks we all put on, to hide what we're truly feeling, and a caustic social criticism on idolization.
A quiet, slow-paced and nuanced film from Takeshi Kitano, with poignant cinematography (formed by long static takes and clear linear camera movements), minimal dialogue and a wonderful, dreamy score by Joe Hisaishi. It tells the simple tale of a young man who dreams of becoming a competitive surfer and the silent, yet emotional heavy, love with his always doting girlfriend. Despite neither of them speaks a single word through the entire film (since they’re both deaf-mute), there is an instant attachment to this couple: the looks they exchange, their contented smiles hold more emotional weight than any spoken dialogue.
"Just like there is a right place for everything around me, there must be the right place for me somewhere in this world". A brilliant short film with a quirky lead, excellent cinematography, sound and music - and beautiful symmetrical shots!
A subtle, realistic crime detective drama with a good balance between dramatic and comic moments and a great bromance. No unnecessary and forced romance, no idiotic police detectives, just normal grayish characters who struggle for their values and beliefs. Time well-spent :)
Student-teacher romance is a personal sensitive matter...
