I agree, the novel contains too many stupid /supernatural details. I stopped reading after book number 9 due to translation limitations, but I’m also sick of those weird details. good guys are always in struggles. I think the author was also struggling finishing his books too. He didn’t publish new chapters until maybe 10 years later. WEIRD.
I feel like the books are like Japanese CONAN manga, it was stuck there, the author didn’t know how to get out of the situation he created.

The original storyline need about 60-80 episodes. They must have cut a lot of details out for 40 eps.

They might not want 2 Cheng Yi’s dramas so close to each other. Because they want their fans to save more money to buy viewing spots and merchandises. Cheng Yi’s product endorsements, those companies also just have limited budgets. IQIYI would want them to do co-branding, and buy ads on the platform also. They need sometimes for more budget.
The drama also hasn’t passed review.
Cross our fingers, praying for Cheng Yi’s efforts to be paid off.

It’s rumored that he might start new project in September with Lin GengXin. They talked with each other last year at Tencent Starlight,

And it was rumored that they had yin-yang scripts to trick people into singing contracts and to submit for the review but the real script was different. And Cheng Yi’s management company is one of the investors too.

So in May, Youku announced Cheng Yi as male lead. The project’s scriptwriter and director didn’t have good receptions for previous projects. It seemed like Youku and Cheng Yi’s management company announced it without his permission.
Not until 7 months later, Cheng Yi accepted and shared the project on his Weibo account.
Cheng Yi climbed up the rank after so many years with his efforts, and without backing capitalists. Although he’s a famous actor, he doesn’t have backing capitalists behind him. As an actor without backing, he can be forced to accept projects he doesn’t like. If he rejects it, those people in power might find a way to bring him down.

He just confirmed the new project

On Douban, the project still says 2024. It means we still have some hope it’ll be released this year, or within 6 months.
I read the books, the story isn’t in line with the history book. It talks about a real dynasty, emperors, but with a overwhelming amount of fictions and fantasy.
I thought Fu Shan Hai (Go to the mountains and seas) would be released even earlier than Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Wangquan. But on Douban, it says 2026. It’s weird. I think Fu Shan Hai can be released after GaoKao exam next summer (around August).

Several reasons:
- the supporting actress Jiang JiaNi saw BP Lisa Crazy Horse in Paris, so she was banned in China for exactly a year. The ban was lifted by Nov 1st, 2024.
- The filming started without permit (rumor)
- The story (novel) is based on a real historical timeline, therefore it’s harder to pass review. If anything isn’t in line with history, it has to be cut out.
- This is a TV (cable TV) project, so it takes longer to have license to air.

It’s been almost 2 years since it was started filming.

It’s Going to the mountains and seas (2026)
Hero Legends remains the same.

It’s different for me because I’m Vietnamese and we share similar cultures with Chinese people. We grew up with HongKong and Taiwan novels. They were translated into Vietnamese very fast. Then many new-generation Chinese novels became popular after 2000s. I mentioned those to say that Vietnamese people have more in-depth information to Chinese entertainment industry. I used to rent 5 VHS tapes a day in the 1990s and early 2000s to watch Chinese drama. I bought many entertainment magazines to know about Chinese, Korean actors and actresses.

Now it’s easier, you can find those information by reading comments on Youtube, reddit threads, or fan club posts. I knew about Herolegends reviewing and licensing process was delayed because of Zhang JiaNi ban when it appeared on a Vietnamese magazine a year ago. On November 1st, the ban was lifted, we now can expect Herolegends to be scheduled.

The reviewing process can be slow or fast depends on the relationship between the production, investors and government officials. Story of Pearl Girl is an example, they just finished filming this year, and they already passed review and obtained license to broadcast so fast.

Imagine Herolegends, FSMM Wang-quan, Go the mountains and seas, all 3 are released in 2025. How good it would be for Cheng Yi fans.

The Double is good though.

Mysterious Lotus Casebook was the best for 2023

it was done filming in May. Post production is on process. It usually takes 6 months for editing after filming. They have just finished reshooting some scenes.
After editing, it will take another 6 months for reviewing and licensing. So it won’t be released before May 2025.
