I have seen this trend in MDL comment section. Most need to be spoon fed about everything and cannot take open endings. They also get mad if the leads don't have a hppt ending. As you said his reason for dying isn't important.

He only knew hyun jin and bora in sk and only kept contact with bora through email. Also people move on in life. After 20yrs he ended up being a guy that they knew for a short period of time.
The female lead is a voice over artist. The movie was already 2+hrs long and most movies don't explain minute details like dramas. Bora and her friend were together in soul so they might have still be in contact.

Except his cause of death there wasn't much to explain. Why does it matter when he died years ago? The only thing that mattered was he didn't betray her. 😥

Why do Korean romantic movies have to make me cry a river by the end.
I thought he didn't come back because something happened to his brother and he had to stay back. But then they showed he died in 2001😭. Then the video at the end 😭😭😭

This gave me the old Korean romantic drama vibes. I feel it could have been cut short but overall it's a good movie.

Yes, it's pretty fast paced and the viewer needs to concentrate on what's happening and the dialogues. The drama don't spoon feed us much. Some things are explained just by conversations or a single scene. There are scenes that will confuse us a lot and the answers to that will come up only by the last episodes.
