this drama is just inspired by the chinese version and is not a full adaptation... the entire characterization of the king is different and from ep 1 itself they made it clear that the real queen is still there unlike the chinese version which never mentions about the real queen at all... also the chef time and again shows his desire to go back to the present and he had a backstory in the present unlike the chinese version...
even if it wasnt leaked anyone would suspect since taecyeon is known enough and wont be playing just an intern with a crush on the FL... the moment we get to know that there is a bigger player in the dark, more than half of us would be suspecting taecyeon's character... if they wanted to keep the suspense they should have cast a not-so-famous actor...

Its pretty clear that the chef became a better person and changed the history of his country to better...he didn't go back for nothing and didn't end up with nothing... He learnt to be empathetic and compassionate and use his intelligence and smartness for the good and not just for himself.. The king already liked the queen and the queen started showing attraction towards the king only after the soul merge clearly showing that the emotion the queen has for the king is solely because of the real queen inside the body... If you watch it then you can clearly tell that the real queen is slowly taking over the body... by the end only the weird personality of the chef was left and all the compasionate and loving and sacrificing part was of the real queen... The king fell in love with the merged soul which is neither the real queen nor the chef but he always had feelings for the real queen... In the present also the chef is only happy that the king survived and didn't show any kind of regrets and he always wanted to go back to his real life... The end is bad only for the people who cannot accept the fact that the real queen was always present in the body...
