Dad was bad but not a major villain in the book, and no mom. Royal folks played a huge part in book-story, as did palace/harem stuff, plus relations with enemy country. There was war and battles, founding emperor, etc.

Male lead a prince and military dude (and also widely believed to be gay for over 60 chapters lol), female lead turned out to be princess, mom and dad not real mom and dad, there was a brother, a great second male lead, and more.
