I had my reservations about watching this at first as it was a Chinese drama. And a historical one at that. Not the type I normally go for. I was also worried it'd revolve completely around politics. If anyone's been hesitating to try this for the same reasons I assure you that's not the case. Although it dabbles in politics quite a bit, there's much more to this story - romance, drama (of course), and even a bit of comedy, etc. The lead girl is also very head strong which definitely added some brownie points for me. All characters are very well developed and the story for the majority of the time stays true to the facts of the Qing dynasty so you can also find yourself learning a thing or two about their history. Of course I'm only on episode 9 and still have a way to go, but I've already fallen in love with this drama so if you try, who knows, you might too.
I was reluctant to try this at first because it was a J drama and in comparison to K dramas the romance, comedy, and more of the heightened emotions tend to be more subdued. However, although it's still not as obviously dramatic as K dramas, I don't seem to mind it while I watch this drama. They've got a decent dosage of the comedy, romance, and drama without being too over the top (which happens more often in K dramas). So give it a go if you've been hesitating for the same reason I did!
its going real slow ...and the story is just going on back and forth...no developments at all!!! :((( !
I thought the story was going too slow as well and that barely any progress was being made. I got bored and dropped it. But I'll wait till this drama is over to read some more reviews and decide whether to continue it or not.
Watching episode 5 right now, still can't seem to take as much as a liking as I would have liked to the main female lead. I just can't help but feel irritated with her.
Hmmm...I want to try this but I've been reluctant to this point because it has 45 episodes. I have trouble finishing the normal 16 most of the time. I just lose interest fast. But after reading the positive comments...I think I'll give it a go.
I was starting to like this drama but then the horrible message about a person's weight made me mad. It may be…
Well I wouldn't generalize it and say it was sending out a message about not being able to live your dreams unless you're slim but rather it reflects the certain standards stars in the entertainment industry are held to: to be slim, beautiful, talented, etc. Of course just because they aren't the perfect image doesn't mean people can't be successful too. There have been many cases. However, it does hold some truth in the what a large number of the society expect of entertainers.
