WZQ is not suitable for ancient drama? đŸ€Ł

CCTV casted him in this Masters in Legacy: Song Dynasty Ci Poets~ Details :

This episode focuses on Xin Qiji, a bold and unrestrained lyric poet of the Southern Song dynasty. Viewers will follow an exploration team led by Sa Beining, Kang Zhen, and Meng Man as they “travel back in time” to the Southern Song era, experiencing the majestic spirit and sincere character of Xin Qiji—the “dragon among poets”—who embodied both literary brilliance and martial valor.

Xin Qiji was not only a towering figure in the world of ci poetry, whose verses could “startle wind and rain” with a stroke of the brush, but also a patriotic hero of iron will, determined to reclaim lost territory. In this episode, the program recreates the moments behind the creation of classic works such as “Green Jade Table · Lantern Festival Night” and “Bodhisattva Barbarian · Written on the Wall at Jiangxi Zaokou”, showcasing his patriotism and pure-hearted devotion to the nation—“Never lament that heroes of the south have grown old; if put to use, they could still honor China.”

In the program, actor Wang Ziqi portrays the young Xin Qiji, while actor Huang Zhizhong plays Xin Qiji in his middle and later years. Through full-scale set construction and cinematic filming techniques, the show vividly recreates historical scenes and the poetic imagery of Xin Qiji’s works

The preview!

He possessed the valor to capture rebel generals alive and lead his men back south, as well as the lofty ambition to establish the Flying Tiger Army and devote himself wholeheartedly to a northern expedition. Why did this “dragon among poets” endure a life full of hardships, yet never let go of his resolute oath—“A true man’s heart is iron to the very end”?

On January 9 at 8:00 PM on CCTV-1 (Comprehensive Channel), #Masters in Legacy: Song Dynasty Ci Poets# invites you to step into the passionate, unextinguished legendary life of Xin Qiji.

Thinking that WZQ was cast in The Song Dynasty Poet because of this drama really makes me realize that even a so-called “bad” drama couldn’t hurt his reputation. 🙂

Btw, his ancient drama The Imperial Coroner 2 is going to be broadcast on January,14 & The Song Dynasty Poet, him as Xin Qiji might be air on January,9! đŸ„ł

Info on Xin Qiji;
Xin Qiji (born 1140, Licheng [Jinan], Shandong province, China—died 1207, Shangrao, Jiangxi province) was a Chinese poet and master soldier whose ci (poems written to existing musical patterns) are considered by many critics to be the best of the Southern Song dynasty (1127–1279).

He is the battle-hardened tiger who swallows mountains and rivers with his presence—at only 23, he dared to lead just a few dozen riders in a surprise raid on tens of thousands of Jin soldiers, capturing a traitor alive & displaying a lone warrior’s fearless, wind-like swiftness.

Both scholarly and martial, fiercely loyal and brave—he was one of the brightest, sharpest young talents of the early Southern Song period.

Look forward to Wang Ziqi’s portrayal of the youthful prodigy Xin Qiji!
