I love all Asian cliches in dramas...it is the whole point of me watching them. Otherwise I would just watch USA television.
However, I do dislike weak female leads to a certain degree.
I love bitchy mothers and mother-n-laws...nothing like my love to hate.
Statue kisses suck.
I rarely have second lead syndrome.
The more tragic the ending the better. :-)
I agree with Akaisora about time skips or jumps...sometimes they can be really annoying.
I want to watch this drama because I love Woo Bin, and do enjoy Suzy but I'm not sure if I like melodrama…
@StephStephieTeff That is a hard decision because Woo Bin is all that you expect from him. I think this character was deeper than any of his others and he did a great job. He is one of those actors that is fun to watch because it's like he becomes the part.
Purplenette you are on the roll for completing dramas.
@AmandaMarta I have been watching quite a bit. LOL I don't really watch US television and have needed a distraction from the crazy election. Now I just need a distraction from the news. Blah. :-)
Klaudia, So far Shopping King Louis isn't a jerk. Rather he is sweet and it has been a long time since I have seen something this cute...even if it is cliche. I'm enjoying it and it isn't even my favorite genre.
I don't understand why crying makes a character pathetic. If your heart hurts, then what is wrong with crying? Some people are more sensitive than other people. I'm not saying that some characters don't bother me, but it isn't usually the crying that is the problem. It is their attitude. I just want to yell at them to find the true self within and gain strength. Also, some people are just nice and kind to people with out expecting anything in return. I admire those people. They treat people as they would want to be treated. I think that makes a person stronger and not a doormat at all.
I did like your article. Great discussion topic!
Oh...and Hye Soo who is dying in Marriage Contract should get a pass.
Edit and I didn't like any of the character in Playful Kiss...I hated that drama.
I don't think the age gap is a problem. It is a sageuk...the most they will do if there is a romance is look at each other. They might hold hands or hug at the most. She is a great actress. I doubt they would make her do anything for which she would be uncomfortable. But don't watch it if it makes you uncomfortable. To each their own.
Best Looking Korean Actor: So Ji Sub
