We have another Go Ahead obsessed person ready to bash the drama because it's not and exact replica of the original…
If 7.0 stars is bashing, then I'm sorry, lol. Also, if you actually read my review without any bias, then you will realise I'm all in for changes, but not if the changes don't elevate an original for the better—or at least be better in their own way. FOC has not hit the spot for me, maybe it does for you so feel free to write your own reviews :)
It's strange that the people who have commented on my post did not seem to understand my point. Perhaps I did…
I actually think the 3rd mom, the strict disciplinarian one is quite common haha.. won't necessarily call that a "bad mom" but more of a typical "asian mom"
But I see your point because at one point in the original drama this same thought struck me too. Guess what the original had 4 "bad" moms wahaha. They all eventually had some sort of redemption arc but I guess the writer want to keep things synonymous and in the original it's easier to see why later too. The friends could relate to each other because they suffer from the same family issue. Could it have been express differently? sure but i believe this is just the theme that the writer wanted to go with since it's less common and it's different to see the male being the main caretaker i suppose.
So ya i think the issue stems from it being a focus of gathering individuals of similar mummy issue but not necessarily trying to paint a picture that there are more bad mothers than fathers in the world.
The original had this controversy as well but I don't think it stems from anything serious. It's simply a reversal of roles from the "norm". In the original, the idea of having 2 men managing a family of 3 kids is more pronounced and I believe the author wants to express this as part of the challenge of this family- to have no motherly figure in the household who are often the care provider. Besides, I think we have more than enough dramas portraying the father as the "bad guy" who abandons, cheats, is irresponsible, and whatnot and that is not an issue yeah? Anyways it's just a drama, a fiction story.
great summary 👏 sure it don’t have to be deep, but it at least need to feel right and make sense! something that this drama really lacked in many aspects!
i agree. i didnt write any reviews or comments about how mediocre this serie is because people were enjoying it…
It's a very fine line between cold and cool and that's the tricky part about adapting male characters from manhwas/mangas/comics that have an aloof attitude. I feel like it's easier to portray that "coolness" from still images because of the nature of that form of media/art. That "lack of personality" would not have been so much of an obvious sore there.
So many times we see K-drama trying to adapt a "cooler" character like that with the seeming idea that the actor's looks can bridge that gap but more often than not we get characters like Yoo Ji Hyuk instead. Not that much NIW could do because that's the character but I've seen better for sure.
I'm so happy you brought up PMY's type-casting.I was nervous to bring it up as some may perceive it as an attack…
Most of the actors/actresses in the world are typecasted in one way or another and not many have the opportunity to take on different roles in their career, let alone do well in all of them. Some of them are known to do only one kind of character throughout their career but are considered top performers. It’s not necessarily a negative to be typecasted. Kudos to PMY for picking an unfamiliar role for her comeback but she simply did not deliver it for me in this drama. I appreciate people that can be objective even with their favourites.
