True! Tbh, I actually appreciated that we finally got a woman who chose revenge over love — that part had potential.…
That’s actually what I was kind of expecting with the female lead too. Imagine if DJ and EN were both forced to make decisions that put them directly at odds, constantly torn between staying objective in their pursuit of revenge or slowly slipping into choosing love instead. Over time, the emotional stakes could rise so much that they’re no longer able to separate their feelings from their goals. And that's where could see the dilemma and tension start to grow but instead the make her U-turn her choice almost immediately after making such a strong statement in the beginning. Lol what.
For me, this drama is an exception. I originally intended to rate it an 8, but I gave it an 8.5 to help it gain…
Agree with the start, it was what made me have high expectations for it too. Near perfect. Also yes, I gave it a 7 initially but dropped it down 0.5 because of the finale.
But for me, the drop-off began as early as episode 7. It felt like the writer had a grand vision, a complex web of interlinked families spanning past and present that requires thoughtful, layered storytelling. But what came through was a show that misdirected its initial setup, abandoned the FL halfway, and kept piling on new plotlines, many of which ended up feeling irrelevant. Ideas were introduced, dropped, and replaced again and again. By the time it landed on heavier themes like murder and betrayal, the emotional weight was lost in the mess. I felt more confused than engaged. The characters, too, never seemed to fully know who they were or what they wanted, even by the end.
It's not so much about what he or she did in action but the way the story was told. I value execution way more than ideas, and even a simple story can be a great one if handled purposefully and carefully. End of the day, this just come across to me as a huge mess, a big clash of ideas that never gelled.
This drama deserves at least 8.0. I haven't seen such a complex yet interesting story for a while. They took some…
For me, to give an 8 would mean that it is something that I would comfortably recommend to people without much hesitation. It would also mean the show is one of the better shows of the year. All of which I find hard to agree with.
I don't think Ildo, Taeyun and Seonu were well written characters too. Especially the two young sons. But that would be another loooong writing haha. I've read around and seen some other people touch on it, particularly like the one by MidnightMarathoner.
Glad you enjoyed your time watching it. I'm sure you will find your people who agree with you as well!
Very helpful! Can you please spoil it and tell me whether the ML & FL get back together? That's the weak link…
Not yet, at this point. She’s pretty much phased out of the story, absolutely redundant character. Most of the time, I would say I wish they get their happy ever after but for these two, I really couldn’t care less. Eun Nam felt like the writer suddenly forgot about her mid-way or gave up on writing romance.
Honestly, I wish I could say shut down your brain and just watch it for what it is, but the build-up to it was such a hot mess that I find it hard to recommend it to anyone. Very very confusing and random story, and for someone who has watched enough revenge thrillers, just having good plot twists and masking poor character development with "teary emotional death" is not good enough for me.
i agree with you. i actually found the show to be rather childish and almost too cartoony. it's a straight forward plot with no depth to it, but kudos its entertaining enough action-wise to kept me going and to finish this short watch. no idea how is it rated so highly by so many haha
Omg I wish I could leave a voice note to express my exact feelings reading this. I was gonna leave a review of…
Thank you for reading my long review and engaging with me! Yes indeed I wasn't a fan of how San Ha and Hae Jun deep traumas were overlooked and replaced with romance instead..and the fact that they resolved all that at the end simply by talking it out after tiring out T.T oh wells it is what it is but I have tasted the masterpiece in Go Ahead to simply be able to accept this watered down version.
It's really hard to take a review seriously when you write it when the show is halfway done and your criticisms…
Fair. I usually don't write early reviews but this one was a bit different cause I am a big fan of the original and have been waiting on this for months since the announcement. I might be too quick to jump the gun on this one. However, these are not my day 1 thoughts but updated to the latest episode as I follow the series.
Indeed, I cannot give you the perspective of someone who has never watched the original; I tried to but as someone who has viewed and loved the original I can't help but give you my take on this show as an adaptation instead of a standalone. Another reviewer summed it up neatly that there will be 2 kinds of viewers for this show, one that has watched the OG and one that hasn't and it will be near impossible for me to have an unbiased take on it as I would notice so much more while watching.
If you want to know if it's worth watching as a new viewer, I would say it's decent as I have not dropped it till now, despite wishing it could be so much more. I don't vibe with the way they deliver the story and even without knowing the OG, you might feel it being slightly undercooked with events escalating rather quickly for you to feel something for it. I hope you enjoy it!
The part about their career choices is right. Something about that was bothering me throughout but I couldn't zoom into it cause it's been awhile since I finished GA. Spot on about that, you scratched an itch I had.
If 7.0 stars is bashing, then I'm sorry, lol. Also, if you actually read my review without any bias, then you…
Hence the title of my review. "As a standalone I guess it's decent but as an adaptation, I'm afraid it suffers greatly in comparison"
I am not obligated to just "love" any changes if I don't think it made something better. The director chose to be different here- which I can respect. I also credited that he was working on the timeline where he needed to shave 24 episodes of screen time which may be the reason why many of the changes were made that way. The director tried, I watched, but I did not like his take on it better, done. Any adaptation is bound to be compared to the original. You're basing off someone else's work after all- a highly successful one while at it.
So if this new version doesn't hit the spot for me, isn't it only logical I compare it back to the successful original to interpret why his changes weren't for the better for me?
been awhile since I've watched a shin min ah show too

exactly so many character’s arc made no sense at all. very random and messy throughout.

Good idea, horrible execution.
WLGYT is such a great work that I wanted to write something about it 😄
