If you like romance and well written characters then you should watch it. There are alot of accounts who are spreading misinformation about the show after barely watching a few episodes. They added a bullied FL tag when literally no one was able to bully the FL not even the emperor. I would suggest you make up your own mind.
The rating is high because plenty of people arr enjoying the show. Its still running on number 2 in viewership and is infact being retelecasted too. But those people are not necessarily here in the comments. They rate and leave. The haters howver are making it a point to leave comments.

Everytime the SML tries to even remotely confess his feelings or hint at it, she shuts him down constantly. Did you even once think that she does not have the luxury to be rude to him? He is a powerful court minister and he knows a secret that could get her and even Xiao Jue executed while she is a normal soldier. She still sets clear boundaries multiple times. Infact giving a return gift was setting a boundary too. Ep21, 24, 26 and so on. The only time she remotely listens to him is when she is squeezing him for information and that happens just once. She literally does not even look at the SML when the ML is there. This is what happens when you fast fofward and watch some scenes without knowing the context.

He Ru Fei (the real one, He Yan's brother) pretended to be General Feihong using his family's jade pendant as a way of identifying him and then told Chai Anxi (who worked for Gerneral Xiao) that when General Xiao asks for help from General Feihong, he should delay the letter from reaching Feihong (He Yan) so that He Yan is late in reaching Mingshui and Xiao army suffers losses. Yupp you nailed it with the first show. I love that actor in other shows and I did enjoy this show too but its mid in comparison to LOTFG. If it had a less famous actor, its MDL and Douban ratings would not be so high. His FD definitely inflated the ratings. As for the second show, the lead actress has a crazy FD known for going after her competition.

Oh I know about the hate campaign against the show. Its very clear its coming from two FDs. I won't take names but its obvious - one big FD whose actor had a popular show this year but are threatened that a show like LOTFG is doing almost equally as good without either lead having a crazy fanbase like his. That show was good and I enjoyed it too. I even like the actor. But the love story, the battle scenes and Cheng Lei's portrayal of a General are all significantly better here and that FD is not liking it. Another is coming from the fans of another show (not this year but not too old) which also shows a male general falling for a cheeky girl (not a soldier). Again love that show and I would say its a better show too but it got 2 seasons to build its story unlike 36 episodes here. And as much as I like that show, Cheng Lei is much more believable as a general. And the FD of the actress in that show is crazy. So yes we know where the hate comments are coming from
