Aw this drama is such cotton candy fluff which gets a 9 because its cotton candy fluff done so well and with so much meaning behind it. It's one of those dramas that throws in almost every cliche in the book and yet doesn't drag any of it out and makes you believe that people are good, even the bad guys. It was balanced so well and was like a sweet stroll through drama land where everything has been very boring lately. The pacing is slower but matches the drama's feel and so you don't mind watching event unfold in an almost natural fashion. It's the kind of story that gives you all the feels and makes you smile at the end of every episode (also it helps that In Guk is my bias)
Highly recommend watching this drama as everyone acts really great and the story is one of the few that doesn't need to make you feel anxious to keep you watching.
The thing about the last episode I didn't get, they have Mirror, which is like the smartest thing in the world, and they couldn't ask her to quickly analyse the bomb and how to diffuse it? I mean she was right there....even if the communications had been cut off she still seemed to active so her database would still be able to have figured that out. It was such an easy cop out, although I understand that Yoo Jin dying was the only way to end the drama towards the end.
Still also felt kind of betrayed that Je Ha just runs away with Anna and leaves her to die....but ofcourse he never had any feelings for her and did repeat he would not be on her side anymore...conflicted feelings >.<
I love strong female leads, but never knew I would ever root so much for a strong female villain. Although I started watching this for Chang Wook (because of its similarities to Healer especially, which is amazing, similar set up and a better version of this drama) Song Yoon Ah became the sole reason for watching this. (Chang Wook to be fair was his usual great self as well, Song Yoon Ah just stole the entire show). You feel so bad for her despite every horrible decision she has made and the fact that she hurt so many people. Je Ha is right when he tells her -you kind of people only think about your own pain and the world revolves around that- and despite all that you still root for her. Her acting was so amazing!! She is someone you both pity, admire and are at times disturbed by.
The chemistry is unfortunately lacking between Anna and Je Ha, and the drama may as well have been without it. Yoona acted pretty well in the first episode but after that her role didn't really have any substance apart from being dragged around from one hostage situation to another so there isn't any more to comment on her in that aspect.
I wish they had developed Je Ha and Yoo Jin as the main leads instead of having a pretty flower girl in the show. It would have been a much tighter storyline with the amount of chemistry between those two. I also feel like there were too many filler scenes midway (like with head of JSS and the police chief, I always skipped their talks).
The drama is worth watching if you enjoy action scenes cause they were really well shot, the OST too is pretty darn good, it just lost a bit of its spark in the last quarter and the ending was more than a little disappointing if justified. Wouldn't rewatch this like I have done obsessively with Healer but it's still a great drama to watch, if just for Song Yoon Ah acting and Chang Wook's face and action scenes (which have developed even more than his role in Healer).
That ending.....it creeped me out quite a bit. I'm not sure i would forgive him if i were in her shoes, its actually really really really creepy and awful what he did. But it did make the movie heaps more interesting....
Not the bestest drama ever but not the worst. Actually if you go in with no expectations this drama is really quite sweet and Park So Dam comes off as a pretty adorable and likeable character which has always been hard in these kind of multiple male leads dramas.
Couldn't say the same for Son Na Eun, unfortunately i could feel nothing for her throughout the drama. Everyone else was cute and funny. Would recommend this drama if you are looking for a lot of fluff.
this drama was ok, the first few episodes were a little odd, i couldn't seem to get in to it. But by the 4/5th episode I was really enjoying this drama, however the last episode seemed a little ridiculous and kind of ruined it for me, too many things were rushed and the relationship between father and son seemed to have been just waved off. The leading lady also never felt like main lead to me. Overall though, it was pretty good. Would watch when you are in between dramas.
Loved the power rangers though! and the younger doctor and nurse Jang! so cute.
The basis of this drama was really interesting, the concept of Do Kyeong's visions were explained in a really believable manner. It's a fascinating theory. Enjoyed it a lot but felt the main and older sister couples lacked chemistry (especially towards the end). Eric was fantastic but the female lead's character could be a little immature and irritating at times. Her parents were amazing though, they were not flawless super parents but they were so supportive even when they didn't understand. It's not the best drama but its very cute and worth watching, if only for Eric being adorable in it!
My favourite couple were definitely the youngest brother and his amazing girlfriend. They were so happy and positive, the two had great chemistry on-screen.
Hahahaha I laughed a lot reading this article and I have to say I do agree with you so much! We don't get a lot of decent guys but when we do they just melt us into a puddle of wonderment. I loved most of the guys on this list, and I completely agree with the main lead in Moon Embraces Sun! hahaha that king was always crying, which wasn't annoying but at times I did think, come on man even I can hold it in more and I'm weepier than most! But like you said he was such a sweetheart and in the end, its not so bad that a man has that as his biggest flaw!
Good article, pretty accurate I think in terms of the double standards women have to deal with, not just in Korea but everywhere. There are very few few dramas which have pulled off strong female characters whilst showing them to be 3 dimensional instead of just pure evil, like Miss Korea which will for that reason always be one of my favourites.
This drama was much better than I thought it would be after having read the reviews posted below. First, the cinematography, the costumes and the ost (esp the instrumentals) in this drama were amazing. The cameraman and director really knew what they were doing visually. The plot of the drama was a little on the weak side, at times really contrived and dragged out as other people have commented, however the script had a way of making one think. Some of the lines said in this drama are really well thought out. The best part of it is ofcourse the romance between the two leads. They had pretty good chemistry and were very adorable when alone on screen. The best acting in this drama has to go to the villain, he did an amazing job of being charming yet evil.
The only thing I have to comment on is that I couldn't help but compare this to Arang & The Magistrate because of the similarities in the drama, although without a doubt Arang was a much better drama than this, Night Scholar is good to watch if you are killing time (or sick in bed like me).
This drama just grows on you the more you watch it and you end up looking forward to each episode. Although slapstick comedy can lose its appeal really fast, the writers/directors and cast members were able to balance this so well with each story. I came to love love love the dance in each episode, and the last episode's one was just the best!
Definitely watch this drama if you are looking for a laugh and an adorable lovable cast.
The drama was really cute and worth watching for the comedic moments, however as adorable as the couple was, there was zero chemistry between them. Which a shame, even Mike He couldn't push chemistry into this couple.
All those fake kisses really didn't help the lack of chemistry these two had.
Be prepared to skip some of the beginning and ending episodes as they just irritate. The middle is very cute though, and really this is just worth watching for the comedic moments.
This drama was fun...but a little boring. I can see why they cut it, there really was nothing much else for them to do without making the audience hate the ex girls. 12 episodes were right for this drama, and even then at parts I was bored.
This drama has made me an even bigger fan of Byun Yo Han though, I haven't seen an actor who can express that much with his eyes before. I hope he gets more romantic male lead roles!
Summer 2015: The season of nothing much happens in dramas. :/
A lot of unexpected tears towards the last few episodes in this one. Like everyone else has pointed out, the constant plot twists keep you on your toes. Just when I start to lose interest and wondering why this wasn't a 12 episode drama, something new happens that makes your jaw drop (though I still think parts could really have been edited). The last few episodes especially a roller-coaster of emotions.
My favourite thing: no cliched women in this drama. Each female character had character and was strong in their own way, each different in their own way and no evil moms, but real mothers who could see other children as human beings apart from their own.
And also they took a slight risk with the male and supporting leads. They were the opposite of let's-drag-the-girl-around kdrama land leads. More of the kind to be led around by the girls. Bravo to the writer and tvN for putting a "softer" male lead and then letting him grow from there. It's nice they recognise that men don't have to be super aggressive all the time and the nice guy, not the jerk wins.
