Thanks! I love Big Bang <3 I like your profile pic too. Yoo Ahin right? I just watched SungKyunKwan Scandal and fell totally in love with him! <3 lol
For me the biggest problem is the way the script seems to be written. Zooey doesn't sound American she sounds…
I agree that the clips they've shown are SOO not up to par with my hopes for this show. I love all 3 versions of this show and what I've seen does not compete with them at all. I'm still going to watch episode 1 and give it a chance, but I'm not expecting much. HYD was my first drama ever and after 6 years it's still top 5 because it's so good. I'm just praying it's not a total disaster.

It'll also take time, nobody loved domyoji is the first episode of the drama show, why would you he's a jerk. But as you get to know him and understand his life you get to understand him. Maybe not forgive him for the way he acted, but understand why he acted that way, and accept him as he changes.
This is what gives me trepidation about the American version. For me it's not a question of if it's adaptable, rather how well they adapt it.
And yes they certainly did choose quiet a big drama to throw they're hat in the ring with.

Universally human. Domyoji is mean and cruel and cut throat because that's how he was raised to be. His father's dead, and his mothers a work a holic ice queen who does what she has to do even if it means selling her own children to do it. Because of this he is left with a very squed idea of love and how to treat people. When he's older he's like a child wondered an amazed by certain things, simple in the way he thinks about life, and throws a really big tantrum when he doesn't like something. I honestly think that that won't be to hard to sell to an American crowd, because its not a completely foreign concept.
He's the hardest to portray because he's mean, but lovable. This all comes down to the skill of the actor, not the script or the culture it's being adapted to. But the ability of the actor to make all these very real personality traits believable.

I think a lot of American people are tired of the over sexualization of relationships too, but of course the pure innocents of an asian drama relationship would also seem fake, but if they can portray their relationship somewhere in-between oversexed and too innocent (which lets face is is where most real life relationships are) they'll be okay. I really don't know how they're going to avoid corniness though because the only way to avoid it is good acting and skill, and I'm not convinced they have that. But lets also face it Hana Yori Dango (the drama haven't read the manga) is a bit corny itself at times.
Personally I think Domyoji will be the easiest and the hardest to portray. I say the easiest because the things that make him do the things he does, bully and hurt people, and even his motivations behind it, aren't exclusive to the asian culture, but are intact very human emotions.

I defiantly have no doubt that fans will be ruthless. I'll be ruthless. I think that a lot of things need improvements already, and the show isn't even out yet. I do think and exclusive privet graduate college would have been better, and more suited for the type of work that the Domyoji character has to do in the future then an art school, but I do think that kids can be just as vicious in an art school then in any school especially if they're rich and she's not. I've seen plenty of show where kids studying to be dancers, and singers and artist are just as horribly cure as kids in private schools. But like I said it doesn't make any sense for Domyoji to be there, hopefully things like this will be explained in the first episode.

Also I'm a little said that they didn't really give her name anything to do with flowers or weeds, I mean I can't really think of any name in English that means weed, but they could have at least tried and named her after a flower, but I can get past this too I guess.
Overall I have to say that this trailer is not encouraging for the whole drama to American tv cross over that they're hoping to achieve. Which is disappointing because I do think that drama and manga can be adapted for American tv, and that there is a market for it, and that Hana Yori Dango especially can be well adapted for American tv. Unfortunately this trailer is not going to sell it to anyone who wasn't buying it before. However, I am still going to watch the show and hope for the best, or at least improvement on what has been shown here.
p.s. thanks for reading all of this.
p.p.s what's with the music? O.o

and she decided to give him the cake she made that day, which would feel more realistic, but I'm only guessing.
I don't really mind his pony tail because the Domyoji character is supposed to have funny looking hair, so yeah… lets just hope they cut it or something. Like the part in the K drama when Jun Pyo straightened his hair because JanDi said she's prefer it that way, and he did, only she says to cut his hair, and he does, and goodbye ugly pony tail.
I don't really mind that she's not the typical 'plain jane' because I'm tied of shows trying to pass off pretty girls as plain or ugly when they're not. Also she's supposed to be a hip hop dancers so that means she has a certain style that probably doesn't fit with pain, but isn't rich either, but still keeps them in very different socioeconomic groups.
For me the biggest problem is the way the script seems to be written. Zooey doesn't sound American she sounds like she's reading a translation of the Japanese script. Who says "confess her love" I mean it's a really weird word choice for an english speaker to use, I'd be more likely to say, "The guys a jerk! This poor girl spent all this time baking him a cake, and worked up the courage to tell him she liked him (or had feeling for him) and he slammed the cake in her face." The syntax she used is weird and therefore probably made saying it weird because her line delivery also isn't the best. I hope the guys are better actors or they improve as the show goes on.
Also I did find the girl giving him the cake and "confessing her love" weird because it's also didn't really feel American either, but it does kind of look like she has an apron on so maybe they're in home ec class
I love Gokusen it's one of my favorite J-dramas! Yankumi is the best! Big Bang is my favorite male k-pop groups! I love them. My bais is Deasung! And my OTP is Deasung and Top their so cute together!
I love Yoon Eun Hye! She's so adorable and such a good actress. She was my first favorite female Korean actress years ago when I started watching K-dramas, my second K-drama was Coffee Prince, and I've loved her ever since. I didn't know she was so strong though, it was funny watching her kick all those guys butts! lol
