Just watched episode 6 and am a bit disappointed about the back and forth in the story. It is annoying, that in…
Duen's just being a cute tsundere lol. They definitely show that he likes him (like smiling when Bohn called, then answering in a sour tone), so whenever he's rude, that's just teasing. In fact a relationship like that actually gives them a sense of closeness considering they don't use honorifics.

Also ep 6 started with them having an open conversation wdym?? I think Duen just wants Bohn to work for it. Or maybe he likes the way they interact. Either way, there are definitely couples who act like that. Just because they're together doesn't mean there won't be ups and downs, or they'll act buddy buddy with each other. In fact I thought ep 5 was great since there was a problem between them and they solved it. That's progression. I could go on but it would be too long lol

Sometimes I forget that King is just interested in Ram because he's weird. Unless...?

The main couple is my favorite but I like PlantDog, too (thats what I call them now lmao).

Disagree. What it could've been is a light, heartwarming series. Adding something like that seems unnecessary, like they can't make it interesting without some petty drama.
Sometimes it's nice to just get lost in the characters' heads, and what they're thinking and how they progress together without having to worry about cliche dramatic stuff. Sometimes the antagonist is within the couple, and not external...

Oh and I have to add that I think it's worth noting that the first inconsistency is juxtaposed with Duen's dream/nightmare of Bohn being all over him.
It kinda tells me that the inconsistencies are intentional. It's like they're saying that Bohn is having wholesome and cute (day)dreams about Duen, but Duen has the opposite, and gets nightmares about Bohn being a pervert.

I hate how I even have to consider whether those are inconsistencies or not because its very much possible for Thai dramas to have oversights... but I'll trust that this one knows what its doing since its been doing good things so far. :)

Title My Engineer Spoiler
So I realise in the first two episodes so far, there were two flashbacks/memories/dream that's inconsistent with what actually happened. Both of them are from Bohn's mind, and happen in bed.

The first one is after the restaurant/diner place. They walk out and have a conversation about paying for the food without the little girl appearing. He's awake when thinking about this.

The second one is when he let Duen sleep during his class time. In this version, the uniform lent to Duen doesn't fall off of him and he reacts a little differently. This time, the memory, or dream occurs while he's asleep, so I'm thinking it's a dream.

Since this is like a somewhat small? production (at least compared to the big boi GMMTV) there's a chance that they are just continuity errors, OR, I could be hopeful and think that it's intentional for storytelling purposes. They want us to know that Bohn thinks about his moments with Duen, or at least an alternate version of it (idk bout u guys but I do that sometimes with my interactions lol). It shows how those moments are so prominent in his mind. So much so that he thinks about other possibilities.

But if it's the former then weh. Gonna let my otp bias consume me and ignore it. It's worth it.
It's still good anyway. I rewatched the first two episodes and noticed a lot of stuff I missed. Also noticed how much they actually use subtle expressions (basically just pretty well directed acting) to show what they're thinking or their intentions and that's good. Everything they do pretty much checks out because of those. They have set ups. No spontaneous/nonsensical shit like some other engineering-medical BL that started airing on the same day as this show, of which I will not name ?

Oh okay so episode 2 they actually addressed my third point. That's good.
Still have no idea why Bar is suddenly so conscious about who Gun likes tho. Like did I miss some important turning point on his opinions on Gun? I thought he wanted nothing to do with him? I'd rewatch the first episode but its kind of a drag. Hopefully someone just points it out for me ??

I feel like they casted the wrong guy for Gun, too. This guy lacks energy. Makes the acting a bit awkward, and not in a cute way. I think they're both pretty cute so usually I wouldn't mind but I actually do. Can't even tell if he's the cool kind of popular like 2Moons Phana, or the don't give a shit kind of popular like Sarawat, or the charismatic kind. He's kind of just... popular for no reason... He's rich I guess..? Idk. It's just hard to believe from an audience's perspective.

Somewhat big comment:So because of quarantine there's nothing else to do. I decided to actually watch episode…
I actually paused before Lee took Bar's phone to forcefully comment on something on FB before I wrote this and wow that just made my point better. That's kinda disgusting if the author thinks that that was okay or cute or whatever. That shit's personal, bro. Like I'd see that happen in Hollywood films but its usually a major plot point, not just something played off for BL bait or as a joke or whatever...

It'd probably be okay if there was some small hint in the acting that he might like him back, but right now he's colder than the Antarctic and clearly wants absolutely nothing to do with him.

Somewhat big comment:

So because of quarantine there's nothing else to do. I decided to actually watch episode one. I have a few things to say about this one, but it kinda extends to other newer BL, too...

First, they actually acknowledged that Gun has been going too strong in trying to get with Bar and I respect that. He clearly doesn't like him, so he backs off a little. (I actually find it funny because I think Green from 2gether: The Series is a sort of stab at those types of characters. If they're hot then it's fine, but if they aren't, then it's just weird. No means no, guys. Lol)

Second, what are those voice over lines lmao. Gun sounds so depressed over the phone and on written messages. Also pop filters are cheap! Use them!

Thiiiiird, and a big one. Lately most BL have been way, waaaay too focused on what the people around them think, and it just disconnects me from the story. "Hey look. Everyone on facebook supports you two so why not just accept him?" "Hey everyone hates you for stealing this popular guy." Also stuff like their friends constantly pushing them into it. Did these writers forget that, in a romance, what matters is what the characters themselves think, and not the people around them? Who cares what that social media page admin thinks about who should be a couple or not? I care about how the two's relationship progresses, and 95% just focused in their perspectives. It takes away from the experience when they keep trying to use extra characters to ship two people together. Is writing a character, and developing them so hard that they resort to that? (Well the answer might be yes. Character designing is pretty tough, but its no excuse). Production and acting wise, I Am Your King 2 wasn't great, but since it was focused on the story, with no insert fangirls, and just about what the relevant characters think, I was actually interested despite it not being any good (it was yaoi. It was literally soft yaoi and that was good enough for me LOL)... well that and the MC was adorable but whatever. 2gether kept it at a minimum (like having girls in the background gossiping about them). TharnType actually had a purpose for them. Just some good examples I can think of from recent series.

Fourth, an extension of my last point. I... just please focus on the characters. Stop jumping around, beating around the bush. It's so boring. I realise that in the BL I like, even the ones where some people think it was bad or boring, they actually focus on the story 90% of the time, and not just dilly dally about what buttfuck mr/ms irrelevant nobody thinks about them. Just get to the point! All that wasted time could've been used for reaction shots or something between the couple (which 2gether actually does. I feel like most forget to do this. It's such an easy and effective way to get viewers to figure out what the characters are thinking so whatever choices they make in the future actually make sense - forshadowing of some sort. This is especially useful for those stories that start of with one or both of them not liking each other).

And lastly, no offense to those actors, but why do they always have unattractive, actually queer characters? Are they just there as comic relief? I feel like it's kinda offensive when the boy couple they showcase are attractive, but leave the others to only serve as an attempt to make people laugh (since it's implied they'll never have the thing that the main couple has). It's a thing that happens in the philippines as well. It's usually in ones where the writer pussies out on making the main characters gay/bi. Kinda sending the wrong message, there...

Yeah. I retract my first comment thread. Bon said the magic words. "I don't like boys. I only like x."
I'm just gonna pretend he said that to protect himself from the dude, or hope that it'll change in the future, or just think he's bi with a preference for girls (which essentially makes you straight, or think you are, anyway).
I swear on the first episode they showed that he liked him, but I guess he was playin? Probably didn't establish his character well enough. Had no idea. His decisions seemed like he just wanted him around more and knew what he was doing, but come episode 3 and he's embarrased about the flower thing going public. Imma have to rewatch this lol i mustve missed something.

I could see why. Plot pretty much doesn't exist at this point besides Bon trying to get in Duen's pants.

I think the enjoyment comes from the cute interactions more so than an interesting plot (like those moe short panel mangas idk what its called), and I eat that sh*t up.

Oh man I usually only make a comment once at the start of a series but
Mild spoilers for episode 2?
So there was alcohol, and one person drunk. Usually what happens is that they use that as a driving force for the plot to progress via kiss or drunk sex but it didn't happen! I'm so proud. It looks like it's gonna be a light and cute story for now, like with the original 2Moons.
I literally just end up dying and squirming at how cute this is omg

Uh comments for that break up bait? Very predictable, but it was probably supposed to be. Still an epic pwn moment though (i literally summoned the word pwn'd from the late 2000's and verbally said it when he got her. Wtf is wrong with me). Maybe a good choice that they didnt introduce her in episode 1 if shes gonna be irrelevant from now on (i mean im sure it was just to show us that despite his character, he has standards for decent human beings and not trash).

I feel like I was too distracted by how cute they were for me to find anything bad (like acting and stuff, which I think is actually pretty good. I actually believe that Duen is as dumb and naive as his character is supposed to be), so whatever I say, this is all biased bro lol

I really like the first year-second year dynamic and the faculties they're in. They were good choices. Makes Duen…
And now for some spoilers:
YES! A character who knows what and who he wants. No bullshit about stuff like "but im a guy/i dont like guys!" and are very very adamant about it, or at least Duen hasn't said it yet. Bon actually likes guys. Everything SHOULD develop pretty smoothly and won't seem forced. I love how they aren't being absolute pussies about it too and don't prolong something that could've been resolved in a few minutes *COUGH COOOOOUUUGGGHHH*WHYRUFighter*COOOOOOOOOUGH* Sorry I must have caught the coronavirus.

So far I'm surprised by how much I liked it, but maybe I am a bit biased since Duen's character is so cute, and so is Bon's. Sure the directing isn't as good as... *sobbing* 2gether... but it's still good!
I'm actually surprised that people found the first episode boring. Lots of things happened. We were introduced to the main and side characters (I can already tell that Duen's family is gonna be relevant) and what kind of character they are, the main future ship got to know each other with the whole nicknames and flower thing, and they established the main characters' motives. Standard first episode stuff. Literally the same thing as 2gether. The acting was pretty average, too imo. I feel like we all watched a different series, y'all. Idk like do you expect some grand thing to happen like ooooh the curse in Why R U? That was so exciting and cool and ebiccc!!!! More insert fangirls telling you that this scene IS supposed to make you squeal? Yikes.

(Oh and best of all: no social media gossip cancer so far)

Not even 5 minutes into this one and we get fanservice. Now I love fanservice more than the next person, but if its just fanservice for the sake of fanservice, it's kinda lame and makes it hard to be interested in it (like okay you're hot but why should i care? I dont really know you yet). It's a lazy way to get people interested in Bon. It's shallow. Just a hook for horny teenage girls.

I feel as though Bon and Duen should be introduced first and not Bon and his rival? That's just a nitpick though. Could work either way. I just thought the first 10-15 minutes could've been clearer on the plot (like 2gether was)

But!!! This is just me grieving early for 2gether's ending. Despite what I've said, My Engineer is a fun series. I like it so far. Plus the main two guys are cute.

Permission to court someone in exchange for something they lost and just wanted back, and he won't give it unless he agrees? Wow yeah how romantic. Good job to whoever thought of that one.

So only 3 episodes in and its quickly becoming my favorite, not just for this year, but for all time, and it might even dethrone LBC for me. The story's basic plot point is so overdone in bl, but it has never been done this well. There's little details here and there that just make you think about what the characters' motives actually are and its very engaging.

Bit sad that someone spoiled a major detail in the youtube comments (those people who upvoted that deserve a place in hell), but hopefully I'll forget it in a week.

Yea so theres this thing that happens in every story and in real life where opposites attract/have good chemistry. For example, Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Jake and Amy, Jake and Holt, etc.. of course its also true that similar people go well together. Its like the colour wheel.

I'm only a few minutes into the first episode and I can already tell that the acting and directing is leaps and bounds ahead of... *shudder* Why R U... I guess it is GMMTV though so it's expected (lets ignore the fact that smaller productions like love by chance and tharn type were produced pretty well.......)
The plot seems like that overly done cliche with bl, and even just regular romances, but I'll see what it does with it. Quite keen.

Edit: I actually want to cry as I'm watching this. The pacing (and writing) doesn't make me want to kill myself. I've found peace...
