im on ep 20 and absolutely loving it. i love li rong so bad and im super appreciative that they aren't rushing her into full-on romantic feelings for pei wenxuan, given that there are 20+ years of bad blood and complex emotions between them, not to mention LR's actual romantic relationship with su rongqing in the past timeline. just bc we as viewers don't get to see much of the past timeline between LR and SRQ, doesn't erase its importance to those characters within the story.
i love that LR is still very much figuring out where her heart and future lies — not necessarily between one man or another, but as a flawed person who is seeing the roots of many of those flaws and the ways they colored her life in the past when she let them run rampant. she is learning and she is struggling with a lot of the lessons. we don't always get to see that from a female lead. zhao jinmai is doing a fantastic job as the princess, and i've really enjoyed zhang linghe's PWX as well!
i went into this assuming it would just be eye candy, wealthporn, and absolutely no substance or depth of storytelling or character development, and i was correct!

so intrigued by our main ministers' little power struggle between each other lol.. though i dont like lady cho (love choi ri tho!) i find myself drawn to the cho family's politicking, especially the father. he and PGW are so interesting to watch.
Loving it so much...Of course how can Yoonjung leave her beloved family just to save herself..Impossible!!! I…
i agree w your last point and wonder if the story will address it going forward... tbh we havent actually been given a political/economic reason why PGW SHOULDNT be in power other than the fact that he's not the king, which by virtue of being literal nepotism does not automatically mean someone deserves it. PGW has of course done horrible things to secure his station and im sure will continue to do more (so that's a few points against him morally lol), but im not so sure we're just supposed to accept his thirst for power as evil, especially given that, besides his revenge against PGW, LT's own thirst for power is only "justified" by the fact that he's "entitled" to it by the happy coincidence of his royal birth.
Can somebody explain pls what is the Queen Dowager's relationship to Lee Tae?Who is she related to?
shes basically his stepmother; she would've married LT's father after the death of his biological mother. because of that, she assumes the role of LT's mother and commands respect from him due to being his parent. i dont remember if the drama mentioned any of her relatives, but shes most likely directly related to one of the court ministers (daughter, niece, etc.). she has some power "behind the curtain" in terms of politics and the royal court, which is why she conspires with the left state councilor. while queen dowagers dont have much formal/encoded power, they often have a lot of sway behind the scenes.
If you understood the background of both of their stories I think what he is doing makes sense, it is Josean era…
its wayy too early to say whether i like him or dislike him lol im not sure why my comment is being read as hate against him; im neutral. so far i have disliked some of his actions towards both girls and especially what he said about yeonhee / how he's using her, but that doesnt define his entire character. we dont even know if he actually believes his own words or if he'll even put them into action bc literally no one watching knows who he is yet or what his actual plans are. i was just pointing out that there is a difference between being justified and being moral, that's all. imo the distinction gets blurred often, and i dont think it should. whether it's even possible for LT to be moral given his situation is a different conversation entirely, and one im sure the drama will address haha

i think you're misunderstanding me lol. im well aware this is a historical drama. this has been one of my favorite genres since i was a child. however, i will never subscribe to excusing behavior that is period-accurate if it's something i don't agree with. the characters exist in the 16th century, but that doesn't change how i receive them as someone in the 21st. i dont expect them to satisfy my moral standards (especially male characters..lmao), but i also dont see an issue with pointing it out when it happens. that's just how i have always gone about consuming historical fiction. i know others go about it differently, and that's fine. i've personally never been unsatisfied by the way i view historical media.
im absolutely capable of being critical of fictional characters while still enjoying them and the story they tell, as is the case here. my disagreeing with any character's actions won't and don't stop me from appreciating this drama whatsoever.

tbh tho all of that is besides the point they're making. at the end of the day he's still not being up front with either woman, and in yeonhee's case he's straight up using her. of course he has reasons, but none of them (imo) excuse his behavior towards yoo jung or yeonhee. he's decided that's the only/best way to power, and maybe it is, but objectively it's not a flattering look on him. it's not meant to be; he knows he can't regain power by playing nice. but as a viewer im personally not going to excuse what i see as immoral actions just bc of that. will be interesting to see how his plans play out regardless tho!
king is wrong as hell for what he's doing to both yeonhee and yoo jung. what he said about fathering a child on yeonhee was lowkey appalling.
i don't expect i'll be sympathetic towards him, but i also don't think thats necessary to enjoy this series. first two eps were great on all fronts, im hooked.
