It’s part of the culture. It’s very typical to run the gauntlet per se on farewell party especially with this kind of camaraderie. It’s a way to show that even he as a stern captain is fallen at the hands of GX, and as close colleagues, they would take this opportunity to tease him. It’s almost a form of brotherhood bonding.

Yes, I noticed the toned down version of the drama vs the novel in term of physical intimacy. I strongly believe it’s to meet the Chinese tv censorship guidelines which is very strict regarding sex, sensuality; even if it’s strongly implied or crudely presented. So, most Chinese dramas always have a clean version when adapting steamy novels.
