I beginning to think that MTH was once a princess of the lost kingdom, Midvale. She was an orphan and had no memory nor knowledge of her birth. She had a tattoo on her back that Yin Qing seemed to recognize. Anyhow, from watching enough Chinese dramas, the Emperor never ended up marrying a low-born or someone without roots. The story always ended with the FL as someone important, or at least, she'd be adopted by a duke/duchess to give her a background to be marriageable stock for royalty.

I know. After seeing his family, there's no way he's the ultimate bag guy in the series.

It feels good to see the Emperor teaches MTH self-defense personally, instead of finding his best general to do so. It shows how much he cares about her safety.

Yup, I think the story is moving onto the teacher now. The way how Zhi Li keeps defending his character is almost a setup for story writing 101 for a harder fall.

To me, he already showed he liked in ep 3. He went to give her the examination dossier in person, and DEMANDED that she treated him to a meal, PLUS that she be his tour guide. He wanted to spend more time with her.

I only took it Zhili didn't see Nian as love interest because he's been a younger brother to her all these years. I thought as the series progresses, Zhi Li would develop feelings for him. But once again, you raised a legit point. It would be cruel to pair her with someone who actually would be the villain. Hmmm...love these sleuthing we're coming up with. 😂

Hmmmm....your comment makes me re-think why I initially categorized him as super low chance. It was tainted with a comment I read about Yin Qing. But if I were to throw that comment out and assess with only the info from the show, I agree with your thought, and I would also place him second best chance after Gu.
