Though I agree that a healthy sex life is something that both parties are responsible for, it is important to…
You make a compelling point about how male sexuality is often viewed as dominant and almost threatening. Question is: Where does this come from? And I think a big part of that is, that women on the other hand are taught to be passive when it comes to sex. This puts men and women into weird prey vs. predator categories. When we teach women to be vocal about what they want in bed, we can then in turn, free men from the label of the pursuer. So I think, through this lens, narratives where women are demanding in a romantic sense, are actually doing men a favor though this is all relative and give and take. I don't think this drama portrays male sexuality as dangerous and monstrous at all. I also don't think they are entirely blaming the men for everything that goes wrong in the bed room, in fact our lead actress gets called out for faking her climax for so long by her best friend. It's true that this drama tends to focus on the female perspective because, well, this is a female-led story, that's what it's about. But this is also still a romance, where our two female protagonists will (presumably) be won over by men. This apparent misandry that many people claim to find in this drama, I just don't see it. You can feel free to disagree of course but that's how I view it.
This drama is a lot of fun, and reminds me of a more adult Sex Education, but something about the face of the male lead is driving me insane LOL. I also wish they would feature more diverse characters (a segment on homosexuality would be pretty cool) but I am not very far into the show and I also recognize that this is already pretty out there for Korea
Though I agree that a healthy sex life is something that both parties are responsible for, it is important to…
also: the person they invite to edit their show, who is supposed to be an expert on female sexuality, is literally male (which I actually found a bit cringe); so I don't think I could accuse this drama of misandry
If in this drama the gender are reversed, then most of them supporting would complain that you are intentionally…
Though I agree that a healthy sex life is something that both parties are responsible for, it is important to recognize that no story is ever told in a vacuum. The writers didn't choose this topic randomly, but because female pleasure has sort of been a taboo topic (and still sort of is in East Asia) for a long time. I don't think this show is flawless in execution (a tad too heteronormative if you ask me), but you have to realize that women demanding better more fulfilling sex is a more radical demand than if the roles would have been reversed. Generations of women have been taught how to correctly pleasure their men for the wedding night and that their own climax didn't matter- the same cannot be said for men. Pleasure for women is also more complex- you won't meet many men that don't know how to climax but I am not trying to publish sex-ED on MDL lol.
I've noticed that some people fail to understand the point of this episode 7 and series. "Gap the series" has…
I think you're being a tad too generous here. These themes might be present in the show to some degree, but I also think that the writers are not as aware of the subtext they created as they should be. Though I do agree that this show is about bridging different types of gaps, I don't see how episode seven specifically addressed the offset power dynamic between Mon and Sam in a productive way. Because ultimately, Sam still got what she wanted. As someone who is watching this as mostly mindless fluff, I am happy to see the main couple together, but truth is that Mon hasn't been emancipated just yet. Few episodes before she seemed more aware of how Sam ticks and also what power she personally possesses over her by being able to accurately read her true emotions. In this episode specifically, it almost feels like she has taken a step back as she mindlessly gives in to whatever Sam asks of her. She isn't as capable of seeing through Sam's games as she priorly was and she's also willing to return to a hostile work environment for the sake of possible romance. We have a few episodes left, hopefully, we will see some major character development from both our leads. Then again, I am watching this show with my brain turned off so I can still get enjoyment out of this drama either way. But to claim that GAP has addressed any of the topics you have listed in a meaningful way, seems a bit like wishful thinking to me. Hopefully, they can do that in later episodes, that would be awesome but I have my doubts that this will get very deep.
Unless you're speaking based on the source material of course. But I can't speak for the GAP comic as I haven't been able to find it translated online :,(
gaaahh I will just say it: I found this episode to be suuuuper annoying. I mean yay, they're finally dating but other than that this was just conflict that felt entirely unnecessary to the overall plot and loads of unconvincing fake crying. Also: Booo for capitalist Sam being a bad boss. Yes, she's hot but she won't be spared when the revolution comes, sorry. What a nightmare to work under, I felt so bad for Mon, would have felt even worse for her if she wasn't so naive and oblivious to everything. Hopefully next week will be less frustrating to watch
Maybe it simply escaped my attention span but I have been confused since the beginning about what exactly it is that Sam does and what she is known for by the public. Like how is Mon a fan of her? Why is she out there giving random interviews about her favourite colour? Is she simply a CEO? Is she an idol? Is she and a part time idol meets CEO? We got a weird dance scene of her in EP1 and I am still not sure wether or not that was a dream? Help??? Anyways I can’t wait for ep 4
Tell me how GAP even with this drop in rating is not even on the TOP rating shows airing right now in the home…
Actually, dumb question maybe, does anyone know wether the rating has an effect on which dramas make it into the top-viewed ones? Or does it purely depend on viewership? Could a drama be rated extremely low and still be up there as long people keep hate-watching it? I genuinely don’t know.
Absolutely awesome review - it was like you were reading my mind! I just had to leave a comment to thank you for…
Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me this, I greatly appreciate it :). And you should totally give the show a chance, it’s a bit of a downer and I admittedly haven’t been able to rewatch it but it’s a great drama nonetheless.
I think EP2 was kinda a mixed bag. The story continues to be dumb and cheesy but that’s what I expect and want from it so no complaints here. The way we first saw flashbacks of Sams one sister and then like three shots later flashbacks of the other just to explain the concept of their grandma being controlling twice in a row, lowkey made me laugh out loud ngl, it was an odd choice. But I am kinda living for the melodramatics of it all, especially when the gay sister first makes a servant drop a glass AND then smashes a plate herself on her way out. Brilliant, I I love it . I unironically love Sams friend group, they seem like cool girls I would want to hang out with. Sams and Mons chemistry is becoming more and more apparent to me. I wasn’t that convinced after episode one but now I am on board. They’re gay, your honor. Also I adore Sam, she’s so so endearing and socially awkward. I too am gay, your honor. I might be gaslightling myself here but I think the audio was more consistently okay in this episode ??? Am I lying to myself?? I honestly don’t know. Anyways this show is a wild ride. I am having fun.
