GAAA THE TRAILER LOOKS SO CHEESY IN THE BEST WAY!!! I AM SO EXCITED!! I am so ready for a lesbian love story that allows itself to be silly and self-indulgent
Perhaps it was just me but I thought the ending hinted at Ji-Hyo and Bo-Ra actually ''going steady'' and that…
Interesting analysis! I also thought that a romantic aspect to Ji-hyos and Bo-ras relationship was at least heavily implied, but I still feel like their relationship leaves room for interpretation. I understand that South Korea is a lot more careful when it comes to the depiction of same-sex-love but then again, other equally controversial themes were shown on screen so maybe the writer simply didn't want to commit to the romance.
I really loved your interpretation of the first episode, you listed aspects that I wasn't paying that much attention to, but your analysis makes a lot of sense Maybe I need to rewatch tp get the full experience. I love reading what other people get out of art, if you have any other interesting hot takes, gladly send them my way.

I want to like this so badly because there are a lot of funny concepts present but when it comes to the actual execution of the jokes, the punchlines just fall flat, which is a real shame. It's just loud at this point, nothing more.
The first episode of this drama was so funny but sadly the jokes in the past few episodes just didn't do it at all for me at all. I am also growing more and more tired of the romance . Aziz and Hae-young (who I am assuming won't play much of a role in the following episodes) are the only characters who still make me laugh at this point. Might drop this soon :/
Yeah no I just don’t trust you guys anymore. I know 7.7 isn’t a bad rating per se and I am not pretentious enough to argue that this is a misunderstood masterpiece, but there are certainly way way worse dramas on this website that are rated a lot higher. I cannot fathom what this show did to deserve this rating. It’s far from flawless but one has to acknowledge the creativity, fresh ideas, captivating cinematography, touching portrayal of female friendship and the stellar acting. I totally understand how this might not be everyone’s cup of tea but I constantly see complaints about how the same 5 K-drama tropes keep on getting recycled and then, when a show actually tries something new, you tear it apart immediately because it’s not what you expected going in. This is an 8.5 easily, c‘mon.
This was a great review, thank you for your analysis! I was reluctant to watch this show because I feel like I might be on the spectrum myself and every scene I saw of this online, gave me the ick. But I wasn't sure if I was just being bitter because most people seemed to love this show, so I was trying to find what autistic folks had to say about it. I think you did a great job pointing out the drama's weaknesses, which might be invisible to neurotypical watchers. Neurodivergent representation in K-dramas is so rare, that people often give Korean shows too many free passes for trying at all but since Korea is a bit behind when it comes to these topics, it is especially important to point out harmful tropes. As someone who still hasn't checked this drama out, this was a very insightful read, great job!
you put into words all i was thinking when i finished watching this show, not kidding. i related to the things…
This comment really put a smile on my face. I am thankful that my words resonated with you, thanks for taking the time to tell me this, I truly appreciate it :)
I am super surprised that this is so well received since the political messages this show attempts to convey is so deeply conservative. That aside, I also don’t think the plot is all that great. This drama is supposed to gritty and realistic but we have a judge who is playing detective and I haven’t finished watching but apparently the ending is also very controversial. I don’t know, I don’t think it’s all that well written… dialogue is awfully stilted as well in my opinion. I have got to give props to the actors though, I think everyone is very solid here. Maybe I am just petty, I will gladly admit that I struggle with tolerating different political opinions and me and the writer just don’t seem to see eye to eye. I for one do not detest Juvenile offenders lol.
Actually - one thing ... do you feel like some of the symbolism was a little bit in your face? Like I loved the…
I will have to completely agree with you. This show is anything but subtle. Arguably one of his biggest weaknesses but also part of its charm in my opinion. But yes, at many points it felt like the director was pretty much spoon-feeding the audience lol
I love LGBT+ movies Call Me by Your Name, Happy Together, Brokeback Mountain, The Wedding Banquet, and Bad Education…
The Fragrance Of The First Flower is a Taiwanese lesbian drama that aired in 2021! It's not mind-blowing but I think it was alright considering the short runtime. I would recommend you give it a try. But yes it's true that there are very few GL dramas. I am assuming that's because drama watchers are mostly female and they like the gay romance since they get to see two good looking male leads interact. The popularity of BL among straight women is really fascinating to me, I would love to hear other people's explanations/opinions on this. As a lesbian, I think it's fine and I get it, as long as you don't fetishize gay couples. I still don't necessarily love the BL genre and hype since some of them propagate questionable stereotypes and tropes but I am trying to be more open minded and have found a few BL shows that I liked.
at this point I worry that if this show turns out to be awful I will still gaslight myself into liking it
