In the novel, they have a happy ending. Ming Sheng and Qing Yu got separated for 2 years because he went to NY to study medicine, afterwards Qing Yu followed him there. The extra chapters show that Ming Sheng became a heart surgeon, while Qing Yu put up a bookstore/library for youth where they can also go for counseling. They have 2 teenage kids, a boy and a girl. The boy complains that their parents are very much in love lol and that their dad values the tree so much saying that is where he and their mom first met.

He groomed her. They were 5 or 6 years apart in age. She fell deeply in love with him.

At the age of 12 she got pregnant, had an abortion, attempted suicide, she felt so dirty, cannot sleep at night, kept remember her first time with Jinrui. She ruined herself, became promiscuous, had lots of bf and contracted the disease. When she found out she is HIV positive she committed suicide. In the novel, Ming Sheng and Qing Yu found out Beiyu sought some pyschological help, the hospital had a recording of the consultation. As far as I can remember, no he didn't get punish but he never returned to their hometown again. I forgot if he was removed from office or resigned because of the big scandal. In the novel, the diary of Beiyu mentioned that she loves Jinrui and he was her first, so they made lots of changes in the drama. The HIV reveal came later on in the novel while in the drama it was made known to Qing Yu early on. I really like that in the drama, they show the life of Beiyu, her struggles and her ruined life. In the novel her life was rarely discussed.

Absolutely. I also love fluffy romance because it makes me feel young forever lol... but this drama is something else, I read the novel and waited for this to air because only a few investors will be brave enough to make a film that will tackle sensitive issues like these. I will be surprised if this drama will make lots of money, but maybe to the people behind this work, it is more important for them to have their message come across and help save lives if ever than make money.

You should like this for the right reason. It talks about topic that are sensitive so that young people can be made aware of things like grooming, bullying, sexual harassment and abuse and how it could affect mental health so much so kids this days can avoid it the easy way and not experience the same due to ignorance. For parents as well, to listen to their children and stop doing the talking themselves otherwise their children will stop opening up to them and find some sort of support outside the family which could be dangerous. A lot of people talk about mental health but what about the underlying issues or root causes of this. Family should be the first line of support but unfortunately they are not sensitive enough to feel the need of the members who need help thus suicide rate nowadays is too high

6 episodes up...if this drama will be this good until the end, I will not be surprised if this will be nominated for some awards internationally like BIA.

It's a fluffy romance, while here, it is a more challenging role for him. It's good for actors and actress to take more versatile role to help them develope more. WIFTY is a cute drama. While Reborn is a drama that we can learn lots of things from. One actress that I really, really love is Rachel McAdams.... The Notebook, Time Traveler's Wife, Mean Girls. Different roles, different partners but all are so good

You're right about Jinrui but in the novel Bei Yu was only 12 yrs old when that happened. He groomed her, and she fell deeply in love with him. She became pregnant and had an abortion. She felt so dirty and ruined herself. Research shows that those who have been sexually molested or taken advantaged of at a very young age will turn out to be promiscuous. I cried a lot when reading this novel because of what happened to her. The drama tried to show more of her flight which is very nice, while the novel did not discuss much about her. I hope more will watch this because it is super educational. It tackles some sensitive issues and it's impact on people and their lives. I have a very distant cousin who lives in poverty., live in a cramped home... little did we know, the father abused her, then abused her sister who got pregnant, we only found out too late. Initially, they didn't press charges because it is something most family will not reveal in the open due to shame, but eventually they did. I don't know what happened after because we lost contact with them.

Agree!!! Classic example...Castaway on the Moon with just an 8.1 rating here but I find it sooo good. It even won lots of awards internationally. Another one, My Best Summer, 8.1 also but I think Arthur Chen was brilliant in this drama!! The Road Home, Zhang Zi Yi's first movie I think. got an 8 rating here. I love all of this films

Honestly, you can check my list, some dramas that I really really like have a very low rating here. I didn't even bother to watch lots of high rating Kdramas because it's simply not my taste. For sure same with others, it's just that I gave lots of respect for the hard works of the crew and staff, so much so that if it doesn't suit my taste, it doesn't mean it's bad. I make sure that I finish the drama too that I feel not so good to make a fair judgement not while it is still 3 episodes or so airing.

People have different tastes ...other possible reasons 1. Younger audiences expect this to be a fluffy romance drama but it's not, it tackles a sensitive societal issue. 2. Many CP fans are jealous whenever their favorite OTPs are paired up with another actor/actress, little did they know they are not helping their idols. China and Korea unlike other countries never tie up or bundle pairings. 3. Don't pay too much attention to ratings, there are lots of black fans doing that especially in China... never trust douban's ratings too. Zhou Yi Ran has garnered a lot of black fans because of his current drama still under filming with Chen Du Ling simply because of billing rankings lol.... that's how petty they are. They even call him ugly.... imagine Zhou Yi Ran being called ugly????

I think so too. Though I'm sure that I'm much older than most of you, am glad that even during our days, gender equality was never an issue in our country. I'm also thankful that our high school teachers then require us to watch films that tackles societal issues and have us make reaction papers on these. It opens our eyes to the reality of life outside our sheltered homes

Maybe some, especially younger audiences are expecting a fluffy romance but this is not. It tackles a very sensitive issue, but I hope they continue watching with an open mind for us to understand different cultures in some male dominant society in Asia. For me, it's a good one so far.
