I think what screenwriters are trying to do is provide content that is familiar with viewers. They know that previously shows with similar content gained positive feedback so they would want to place their bet that they can release something similar. It's a good way to make money, and the youth can easily relate to the plot as well. Besides, all stories take ideas from other stories.
also something else entertaining is that I think that Ingot is named so because chinese Ingots/Sycee or 元宝 (yuanbao) was the gold and silver used during imperial china, and yuanbao the hamster is a golden yellow color too :D

Honestly doubt they would be able to come up with a good plot for a season 2, everything tied up pretty well in the end, though the ending was a bit lacking..
