Cute show, lovely couple but terrible terrible editing. None the less, it was enjoyable. 7.5 from me :)
Yeah, I realized midway into the series and that helped to ease the situation a bit! :D Any other thai drama/lakorn with similar plot that you may know of? It doesn't necessarily have to be with this pair.
I have so many endings planned out in my head and I'm not sure which one I would prefer because I'm…
I'm going to let my imaginations run loose here so please bear with me. So here's an ending by me!
The ending of E18 where Chae Kyung attempted to hurt Yeok was in fact, a dream/ halluciation by Yeok. I mean, we've seen him dream of an encounter with her once so it could happen twice. Also, we didn't get to hear her line, "I should have killed you" so there's high chance that this was all just a dream. Maybe, Chae Kyung will walk into the King's Chamber and attempt to hurt him, yet she will restrain herself and just say, "I should have killed you. Yet I cannot make myself to do so. You are my husband, one of the only people I have left whom I can trust. So, I have a request. If you loved me even a little during our time together, do me a favour and depose me from this wretched position that I am in." Yeok will definitely resist, he will scream and shout and say NO NO NO but something about Chae Kyung will be different this time. Her eyes won't shine with melancholy, her face won't light up the same way at his display of affection, perhaps she will compose herself to be much tougher than how she was when she was confined in the palace by Yung. Yeok will be under the impression that her change of heart came from the annihilation of her family, when in fact she is with the thought that the Snail Brides killed her parents (she may not blame Yeok directly but whatever the actions of the Snail Brides will always have an association to him, good or bad.) Minister Park, evil as ever, will hear about this somehow. He will make it difficult for Yeok by proposing how Chae Kyung is directly related to the last monarch and his loyal follower. He will gather his minions, erm, fellow ministers and bow down in front of Yeok to depose Chae Kyung. The uneducated Queen Dowager will definitely advise Yeok to depose Chae Kyung even though she too believes it's somewhat too cruel because to her, her son is all that matters and she will always try to remove what's in his way. Myung Hye will plot something with Minister Park and cause an irreversible damage to Chae Kyung's reputation which will leave no other choice for Yeok but to depose her. Yeok will still try to resist so that's when that good-for-nothing snake Minister Park will negotiate with Yeok to take Myung Hye as his bride in exchange of Chae Kyung's life. Chae Kyung, on the day of her supposed execution date will be informed by that suddenly-loyal-Eunuch that she has been spared and that her life sentence is to live in a mountain as a nun (no longer as Queen Dangyeong) and to never see King Jungjong in this lifetime or in the afterlife.
(Here's where my imagination runs wild.)
Nanny will run and grab her Agasshi into a tight hug and promise to follow her to the mountain, or where ever else she plans to head. Just as they're reunited and the crowd around the execution setting dissipates, the suddenly-loyal-Eunuch will hand her THE MOST HEARTFELT LETTER EVER COMPOSED IN THIS UNIVERSE (second to that, written in the novel Persuasion by Jane Austen) by Yeok, definitely with explanations such as his lack of involvement in the killings of the Shins, or the fact that he really didn't want to let her go but seeing her wither away in the palace is not what he wanted etc. He will also vow to only love her with his heart and soul in this life time, and leave some kind of token that she can wear even as a nun as tokens are one of the central theme of this show. Chae Kyung will shed bittersweet tears and with a newly matured outlook, move on to live as a nun.
A JUMP IN TIME.
The show will open with Chae Kyung the nun. She will no longer have the same kind of gleam that she had in the start of this show but she will be this mature elegant woman with wise thoughts and many respects from others. Only Nanny will tease her of her so-called-eloquence from time to time and this will make life lively and happy for her. Somebody will write to her from time to time and she will reply by asking Nanny to hang her red Hanbok skirt on a large rock by the edge of the mountain. The scene will transition into Myung Hye on her death bed with her son, the future King Injong by her side. Jungjong is nowhere to be seen. Injong will comment on this and try to blame his Aba-Mama for being so heartless. But finally when death is knocking her door, Myung Hye will open up of all the horrible things she's done to her young son and make him promise to make things right for all the people she's hurt in her process to attain the throne for Yeok and for the greater good that she's dreamed of all her life. Injong will promise her and Myung Hye will die off as a somewhat likable character instead of a pitiable low-life that she is at this moment. (This will also help to shape Injong's character as historically, it was Injong who made life on exile easier for Chae Kyung.) Upon being notified of Myung Hye's death, Jungjong will quietly mourn for the loss of his friend and apologize that he never reciprocated the same feelings as her. Around this time, he will visit a mountain to see a virtuous Nun with a great reputation to ask her to be his son's Nanny/teacher/mentor/guide. The Nun will comply and give him an item that he can wear even as a King as a token to seal this promise. Yes, this nun is indeed Chae Kyung. Her sentence was that she (Queen Dangyeong) cannot meet King Jungjong. But here, she greets him as Chae Kyung the nun. In a way, they will forever have a connection together and Injong will learn of good things from Chae Kyung + get acquainted with her enough to know that she's the lady his mother felt the most guilty to and try to help her when he is in power. This also will be a bittersweet ending to the love story of Yeok and Chae Kyung.
I'm sorry, I wrote this in a rush with no revision, I'm sure it was confusing, but let me know what you all think of this kind of an ending. I'm sure it's very lacking and difficult to follow.
To think the Queen finally seemed to have shown some warmth to Chae Kyung. Way to go Minister Park, you douche bag. There's a special pit in hell for you. It's burning and ready to make you into a big fat bbq. BLEEEEECK.
I can't control the viewership ratings, I know, but I don't understand why this show fails to go up…
They didn't bother to define what those bar graphed meant! I guess MDL staffs had a lousy middle school math teacher. I was taught to always label my graphs lol
My heart tore apart when I saw the Shin family break apart. It all happened in one episode :'( We didn't get many scenes with her, but Mommy Chaekyung was such a lovable woman. Her devotion to her husband brought me to tears. I will forever remember how sweetly she used to address her husband ("daegam").
I can't control the viewership ratings, I know, but I don't understand why this show fails to go up…
Hey guys, one question: You know how there're two blue looking bars under the show titles in the hub? What do they mean? The top one is usually in hundreds and the bottom bar usually has a 1 beside it.
I can't control the viewership ratings, I know, but I don't understand why this show fails to go up…
My point exactly! I see the hub from time to time to check what others are loving at the moment yet, when I see shows that clearly have mixed reviews up on that list, it makes me so sad. The only airing show I was watching was Queen for Seven Days, so I can't exactly call out which dramas needed more recognition other than this one... But basically, I really wished people gave this show (and other shows with awesome reviews) a chance. I know this show lacks star power (like idols) but it did have Park Min Young? Healer was a big deal right?
One thing i don't get is why tf does Chae Gyung keep protecting the King despite all the cruelty and shit…
I think I can explain why Lord Shin is so reluctant to leave the King's side! By now, we all know that Lord Shin is a fatally virtuous man. Foolish indeed, but very ideal. He promised the King when Yeok and Chaekyung were getting married that even in tough times (as in, potential revolutions) he will always be Yung's loyal subject. The underlying thought here isn't that he likes to keep his word, I believe. He was in a difficult situation where he had to weigh his family against his family. His sister, the Queen, is a virtuous woman with an intelligent heir who may be a wise ruler. Plus, he dotes on her because she's his cute lil' sis. Then there's his daughter, Chae Kyung, who is his blood and flesh, and embodiment of his love with his wife, and also his majesty's worst enemy's young wife. Choosing sides means killing someone he loves. Worst yet, it means killing his entire family! (Treason = three generations are killed). He just wanted to protect his tiny little happy bubble in such turbulent times. Poor man :'( Did I help at all?
Can a King afford to behave recklessly and have characteristics similar to those with mental-illnesses when he is in charge of maintaining the livelihood of his people? The saddest thing about this story is that none of these characters were everyday people. All human actions have repercussions, sure, but these characters are unfortunately monarchs, hence the repercussions are much more pronounced. They cannot cry out that they were unloved as a child to explain their apathy in human lives. His endless luxurious lifestyle (eating meat everyday, spending a lot of money on fancy things, getting bribes from dumb peeps with cash) cannot be explained with a simple, "hey I lacked good people around me." I believe this bittersweet truth is the charm of this show. As a person, Yung is pitiful indeed. All he needed was a tight hug and some good guidance (which, he had, in the form of Lord Shin - a minister with no right to apprehend and/ or discipline a crown prince). However, as a monarch, Yung is nothing but a failure. He is a man-child who's been given the task of guarding the health, dreams, and general peace of fellow men. Now it's difficult to argue that he's simply misunderstood and that he needs another chance no?
What he really needed (in modern day logic) is a good stint at rehab. That would've helped him greatly!
I can't control the viewership ratings, I know, but I don't understand why this show fails to go up on the hub every week. Even when it does, it disappears in half a day. I'm really really sad.
Chaekyung is honestly the man in the relationship. I can't even remember the number of times she directly or indirectly saved her man from danger throughout the series. She's the man!
Oh man that preview for ep 17! WHY IS CHAE KYUNG THE ONLY ONE WEARING THE ROYAL ROBE? WHY IS YEOK DRESSED AS A GUARD? HOW WILL CHAE KYUNG SAVE HER SABANGNIM FROM TORTURE? (Will she legit cut ties from the Shin family now that the revolution will be full on? :'( Poor herrr) How will I manage to wait three more days with these questions on my mind!!!?
Me at ep 16: why all of them are so miserable ( TTTT____________TTTT ) I can't believe a rookie writer wrote…
I've been searching everywhere on the Internet for the past works of this screen-wright. Now I understand, no wonder I can't find anything, she/he is a rookie! She/He's a part of a production team I hear?
The fantastic thing about this show is that it has a way of making me fall in love with ALL the characters. Take…
Hi @AhnDan Tae, ... remember how we used to low-key ship Seo Noh and Myung Hye? I just want to go back in time and slap the heck out of the me then. AHHHHHH SEO NOH YAHHHHH :'(
