What's the significance of seat cushions and how are they related to exams? (ep 10) I remember "cushions being stollen" being a thing on another Nam Joo Hyuk drama called School Nurse Files. Can someone explain this culture to me?
I do wonder why Chinese fluffy dramas love to make their FL (often from the wonderful arts background) into such a headstrong science deniers. If someone who has dedicated much of their post-secondary life to medicine, research and understanding new treatments and the responses it may have on human anatomy (aka our ML) asks you to get another physical checkup... even just for confirmation's sake... I don't know, comply? I totally understand the FL's dad attitude towards this, he is going through an emotional crisis because no one is comfortable with the concept of death approaching you, it's part of terror management theory in psychology. But I didn't quite understand how it's "plucky" for the female lead to hold grudges towards the ML and therefore discredit everything he says because he didn't help her at the bar/ was at a bar. Doctors can be at bars, they need a life too. Also, not everyone can be an associate professor in medicine, he must have great publications with amazing impact factors. At the same time, it's not meant to be THAT offensive if the FL wanted a second/third/forth opinion on a matter. It's a health scare of her loved one, she is entitled to receive as many opinions as she wants. She shouldn't delay the second test in the meantime, but she can talk to as many doctors.
I'm not generalizing Chinese dramas. I just happened to notice that fluffy/feel-good/romcom type shows in Chinese speaking regions with the science-y ML and a non science-y FL love to have this plot and character set-up around the first 8 ish episodes of its run time. Then the ML softens and starts to communicate his intensions (you know, his hidden good-heartedness) and the FL leads opens up and actually starts to SEE things instead of reacting head-on. I often see that the FL's character is far better written out post the tenth episode, they have reasonable reactions and are genuinely what I would say, "plucky."
I guess the intension is to make the ML and the FL a foil to each other? You know, the good ol' "he's logical, she's emotional" or its recent variant, "hyper gf, calm bf." Maybe it's to highlight the fact that neither of the leads are able to assess one another's characteristics because of their personal biases from a shared experience in an earlier situation. Maybe the production team wants us, the audience, to feel agitated until the tenth episode. Or maybe they want to highlight how wonderful a catch the ML is in the earlier 1/3 of the show, and dumb down the FL for a bit because the next 2/3 of the runtime will be spent on how gloriously amazing she is?
Anyone else feel the same way as me? I'm still excited about the show and am expecting good chemistry but I just wanted to throw some food for thought.
Why? Isn't he a regular person in his spare time? Dating doesn't need to be announced to the whole world. He didn't…
I watched a C-entertainment news video that filled me up on the "tea" (is it even tea? It's just irrational behaviour). What I don't seem to understand is how they think an actor, who ACTS to make a living, is just being themselves in all their works/jobs. Do they really think they are flying around wuxia style all day everyday? No I bet not. So what makes them think that loving eye they displayed in the show is their real intention. While I experienced the tiniest sensation of heartbreak this time, I still don't understand why I would need to waste my finite time and go on his page and trash talk the love of his life and feel like I am justified in doing so. I guess people lose touch with their empathetic side when they dabble too much in fandom.

Oh no, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to seem like I am unhappy about this. I see how my post may have been misunderstood. I'm not shipper/Addiction CP fan (is that what that show is called?). In fact, I never watched it. I found out about him via this show, and then I went ahead and watched Mayang Street and could not recover from the hearbreak that show gave me. This show was extremely addicting and the chemistry of the leads heightened my viewing experience. Even though the ending was weird, the fact that a show was able to hook me after so long was enough! I agree with you, it's not about the person, it's about their acting ability and their art. I guess I made the above post because this is the first time I felt like a hypocrite. I know cognitively that this is good news, but I couldn't deny my mild heartbreak. This is why I said "fandom makes me feel like I need therapy." This experience made me realize that anyone, even me, can fall into the traps of fandom. I don't know if that made sense. Anyway, wishing you a happy weekend stranger!
HE GOT MARRIED! I don't know what I'm feeling... immense happiness that a good actor found someone who understands him? The tiniest tinge of jealousy (in the most harmless way)? A big sigh of relief that he was able to date happily for four years without interruptions? Fandom makes me feel like I need therapy sometimes.
I didn’t watch the sequel because I didn’t wanna ruin the heartbreak LOOOL I love pain
I saw a couple of clips of it on instagram and that was enough to make me so sad. I will watch it someday to properly experience the story, thanks for the recommendation!
