You will like Goodbye My Princess a lot, but, the length might put you off. It does hook you and keep you on your feet so hopefully you give it a try :) It's okay if you don't!

I actually feel like heart break stories have a stronger plot because making one's heart break needs more logic and good cinematography than making some strangely love-dovey scenario. My top rated shows all happen to be tragedies, this can't be a coincidence.

For anyone wondering, this story has officially picked up starting ep 13 (well full blast from ep 14). It's quite interesting now. If you can ignore concealer lip colours and strange modern eye makeup, the costumes are breathtaking and the hierarchical relationships are starting to web (this is a good thing!).

I watched AvenueX's first impression video for this show today and she mentioned how this show did not master the historical accuracy of the costumes. I wonder how an appropriately styled Ming Dynasty look would have been like.

I don't know if they think looking devoid of any signs of life is a way to convey demureness. The show styled the Imperial Grandson's fiancee(?) very pale too. I think they did WJY dirty, I already mentioned the lip but I realized that her eyebrow is very different from her Yanxi days too, it's too... for lack of better words, modern. It's like today's makeup but in gorgeous traditional fits and hairdo. The dissonance bothers me too.

It's been a few episodes, I believe I am allowed to say it now. GOSH DARN I HATE WU JIN YAN'S MAKEUP, especially, oh my gosh, especially that awful light coral lip shade and that awful concealer colour lip liner. Why change what worked so well for her in Yanxi and Hao Lan? She looks especially great with darker eye makeup and a rosier lip shade. The actress playing Zi Ping looks very lovely, so does the actress playing Yue Hwa. Why? Because they look lively with their rosier makeup. Clearly it's not a matter of making servants look pale to prove a point. Ah I can go on forever about how terribly sickly our beautiful talented Wu Jin Yan is looking... but I will stop here. SOMEONE JUST PLEASE GIVE HER A REDDER LIP COLOUR, PLEASE AHHHH.

I also noticed that I loved the yearning for each other phase of Shizhen and Jiashang more than being together and being in love. But that's just me, I just loved every second of the sizzles initially.

No no, it's not low, 7.5 is a B-, that's fairly well. Plus it's your opinion, that's super valid! I decided on 8.5 for me because it did good 3/4th of its run and I see myself rewatching this until it gets to that poor CGI phase. I believe AvenueX, an awesome Youtuber who recommends Cdramas (if you didn't know about her) was voicing out her concern about the pacing of the show somewhere in her videos. She ended up correct. They really really built the show to be addictive, which is why I stayed loyal to it even when it turned into borderline-thai-slapkiss-situation.

Until ep 27, I was convinced I found myself another 9/10 show and I ecstatic, past ep 28 especially ep 33 - 38 (woah that took some will power to watch) it felt more like a 7.5/10 makjang fest. However overall I give this show 8.5/10 for simply being one of the reasons why I worked so hard in the week. I loved how I was always looking forward to the new episodes. As a vintage lover, all the costume and props were such an eye feast to me. I think 8.5 is a well deserved grade.
