if i remember from the book, it's because of a blood curse. a few hundred years ago, a clan fell because of the yu family, so they have to bear a blood curse where their offsprings can only lived til 30.

It will be a bit difficult to follow the book exactly because a lot happens in the book that is hard to translate…
i wish they start with that seem too bcs it shows a stark contrast between the present yunhe and the past yunhe. i really hope they keep the torture scenes tho maybe just make it less gory bcs i feel like a large chunk of the story was on that point and how it makes yunhe feels like she will never experience freedom.
