just my 2 cents regarding regarding their breakups:
it's not just miscommunication, but also that they were no longer each other's top priority. it's understandable that jiang chen was always busy, especially an intern but they stopped communicating with each other than just the basic. and xiao xi has also always felt that she was the one who loved the other more in the relationship, especially since she chased after him from the start. after awhile, even when you got together, you'd start to doubt your relationship, since to her she was always the one who gave more, and she thought she was taken for granted. so when they stopped communicating, she felt like she was unwanted, unloved by him. especially since their communication seems to be them complaining and making excuses to each other. so even tho she still loved him, she began to doubt their relationship, his feeling for her, especially since the people in his professional life are' better' than her. i think that's what make it sad, she still love him but she began to hate him, so she began to watch as their relationship that was based on their mutual feelings become something perfunctory. even tho they grew up together, they were not able to understand and trust each other wholeheartedly. and when xiao xi realised she was no longer his top priority, it felt like like this relationship was doomed. they were not communicating properly and no longer trust each other, so it was doomed to end.i honestly think xiao xi should be eith the 2nd ml bcs he tried so hard to understand her and just gave his best for her, even when he knew she wasn't going to choose him, bcs he was honestly rooting for her happiness
