mu xuanling is the chaos pearl. she became acquainted with zhao ming after she was damaged after repairing a tear in the world and he fixed and nurture her using his heart blood. his kindness led to her developing human emotions and she fought the divine realm and tiangming shu (the book of destiny) to try to save zhao ming. when both the book of destiny and chaos pearl become damaged, there a chance to change fate. she sent the sliver of soul from his heart blood through the cycle of incarnation, hoping that one day, the soul would reunite with the fallen zhao ming and wake him up.

he didnt like her in their past life. in their previous life he didnt have any emotions, he was just doing his job. the divine race asked him to erase zhao ming’s name from existance and he just did his job. he didnt understand why the fl was willing to forsake the entire world for one person, and they fought almost to death. bcs of the fight, both of them sustained severe injuries and fall into the mortal world. bcs of their connections, they both met again in this life. only in this life, bcs he became a human, did he gain emotions.

it was a good read, not too long so if you have the time, i’d suggest you to give it a read.
there’s not much misunderstanding, i’d say the drama adds more misunderstanding. in the novel, mu xuanling truly believe from beginning to the end that the big brother who saved her was xie xuechen. in the drama, they said it was a demon possessing him, but it was actually xie xuechen, just that it was him from the future. they ended up together technically in this lifetime. there’s technically only two lifetimes, this one and the previous ones ten thousand years ago. but after they got together, they will die, and got resurrected, changed their identities. and have their happily ever after.
but after this arc, she will lose her feelings for him, and he will be the one who’d chase after her. this is not out of her own violation however, she was fed something by her master.
for the most part, the novel was about mu xuanling’s love that is just selfless. she didnt care if his heart only hold a small place for her. she’s content to just stay by his side, while he protect the world. he could protect the world and she would protect him. and in their previous life, and this, that was what she tried to do. like in this life, in their previous life, their entanglement started bcs of his kindness. his kindness led to her having emotions, leading to the karma between them.
Actually the 2nd ML is always a good guy in both past and present life unlike the ML that became evil in the past…

the 2ml, in his past life, we cant really say he’s good or bad, bcs he wasnt a human and didnt understand human emotions, he was just doing his job. he didnt understand why would ling’er would even forsake the world just for one person, they were not to actively interfere with the world, other beings could use their power, and pay the prize accordingly. they were both born from chaos, wasn't supposed to gain human emotions, and they were just supposed to do their jobs, to safeguard the entire world. he only gained emotion after he was reincarnated as nan xuyue.
but zhao ming’s kindness has stirred up human emotions in ling'er, although now her entire world was only him. but she wasn't his entire world. he had responsibilities, and she was content with it, we could say that their relationship was never equal, but she was content with it. she was content with just staying by his side. anyways, his kindness made her human, and her emotions lead to their cause and effect.
also, he didn't 'become' evil in the sense that he was corrupted, he was cursed by the gods. he only tried to do something that he thought would be best for his race. his fault is thinking himself invincible.
