I think its because the theme of this story is rivalry so instead of power couple the writer makes them enemies or allies with different goal and method that's why untill the end they will clash with each other. But it makes the audience like me sad because i don't like the cold war that they wage everytime they fight. It's what makes me can't fully support their relationship for now since its hurt to watch the cold war.

I remember someone here says that Li Ni's journey is so similar to Li Shimin from Tang Dinasty. And funnily enough his wife seems the type of virtuous and humble woman, so similar to Gu Wan Niang rather than domineering general like Cui Lin.

About the dating thing and Cui Lin couldn't trust him to make a right decision, I think its better for them to break up because Li Ni' ideas of coming back to Laolan isn't necessarily what she want. But Cui Lin's perspective make sense with her motivation. From the start Cui Lin distrust Li Family so much, even maybe has intention ro rebel so it's no wonder she won't trust The Imperial Grandson's competence easily. Later she and The Cui army will readily support the proven one from the bunch of royal family descendant.
Meanwhile, Li Ni also his own motivation to enthrone the Imperial Grandson and live peacefully in Laolan Pass.
At the end those 2 ideas finally merge because from the spoiler it seems Li Ni become emperor but later pass it on to Imperial Grandson and they live freely away from the palace with their young children. That's signify Cui Lin finally can rest assured to leave the country to the Imperial Court and Imperial Grandson. And finally retired to the countryside.

So whatever people say I think she has best interest in her heart albeit with different method.

So back to the question? How to make Imperial Grandson take the throne? He has to force his father to do it.

Even if she sit at the ED throne, she has no power from military or politically. Its too trusting to assume that people will let The Grandson to govern peacefully without bad people trying to vie for power. Pei Yuan has Zhenxi Army but I think he's weak politically. Her scandal as Sun Jing's concubine or captive will make it her flaw that can make the excuse needed for power hungry people to seize power for themselves. With people like PM Gu who has his own agenda, General Gui who's dissatisfied with how Li family rule, if they can become regent I think they will take it. Who doesn't want that?
So I just think that ED isn't strong enough to protect the Imperial Grandson and rebuild the country simultaneously.

But Im also curious. What's Li Ni's plan to make Imperial Grandsom the next ruler? It's not like his father and brother will give it to him. The Imperial Court isn't strong enough to backup The Grandson. The military generals only respect the strongest etc. Only he himself that can safely give it to him. He can give it from the legitimate way i.e. becomes crown prince then emperor and abdicate. He also can give it by forcefully make his father abdicate and enthrone the Imperial Grandson, meanwhile he become regent.
Because this is a war torn country and Imperial Grandson is still young, he will need Li Ni's protection and helping hand to slowly rebuilt the country while he grows up.
It's not like Li Ni can just run off into the sunset the moment Imperial Grandson take the throne.

I think they won't directly confront LN but maybe try to discredit Cui family therefore the emperor won't agree to the marriage and support GWN as his bride instead.
