My ID Is Gangnam Beauty Episode 1

My ID is Gangnam Beauty is probably one of the best first episodes I have ever seen. Even if the show deteriorates from here, this first episode has left an impression. Not to mention I think it gets all of its important points across well and makes its point. The stress of beauty. Or more correct the stress of being a woman. We see Mi Rae harshly judging other women's faces. Casting unfavorable light on her characters. So materialistic! Then we follow along as it's clear she's getting a new face. This is all just so materialistic and it could have come off unwell for the story. However, as we follow Mi Rae the story of her past leading up to that moment becomes clear. Even as she strapped down to the table and the risks of having plastic surgery are clearly laid before her. As a child she was "fat" and we see her dealing with these boys bullying her. She even says she was strong willed and didn't take it lying down. The more she fought back the harsher their treatment became. Until she took her strong will into helping her lose weight and keep it off. Believing the potential she had. Then after clearly being a top student she decides to confess to her crush. Which leads her down the harsh rabbit hole of being "ugly". Spending her entire youth under such cruelty. Maybe that boy's rudeness is what started it or everyone was waiting to bash her with it.What's even more stunning is the director's choice to use shots and techniques so that the viewers can never see Mi Rae's original face. So that we can not judge her. We're only left with the person that she is to her core, and her new face.A new face, and a new life." Is what Mi Rae wants and her mother promises. Really what Mi Rae wants is to be average and to simply not be bullied. Her only dream. After surgery she is a knock out beauty though. Now the other side of the coin is turned. A different kind of attention. What I do love is that Mi Rae's mom isn't her only support. She also has a great friend, Hyun Jung. Who she trusted with the secret of her surgery and her new face. I'm excited to see a great friendship between girls in a drama. Speaking of that different kind of attention you can see Mi Rae waiting for people to take her out. She starts to enjoy life as a beauty. Finally able to show of her dance moves, which were unacceptable for her to show off as an "ugly girl". When the other shoe drops. Already having to take sexual harassment from a senior. Who actually gets her alone and blocks her in a room. The attention of being too good looking starts. The reality that no matter what you look like as a woman it's tough. You're harassed if your too beautiful, not beautiful. Average is better, but the reality is there will always be harassment and judgement.I'm making this drama seem deep and dry. It is deep and I believe it has very strong messages. It is also very fun and funny. A good time. It has a promising male lead that has a past with Mi Rae's character. He noticed her from his brief stent at her middle school. Enough so that he might actually recognize her by her dance foot work. He's a stunner, a person who destined for natural photo shoots where every he goes. (Mi Rae's thoughts.) What I like is he isn't just an aloof male lead. He's pretty clever. Rebuffing the "natural beauty" Soo Ah's attentions on him by getting other guys to help her sober up! I feel like the writers won't leave us, or Mi Rae, guessing about whether or not he knows her. What I find odd is that after Mi Rae's plastic surgery they don't tell her dad. It's clear he's very proud of her and loves her exactly the way she is. He can't see the issues in her life. They haven't told him yet, and I feel like that could end very poorly.Overall I think this is a wonderful start and I truly hope the rest of the drama can keep up with such a solid beginning. *****I originally hastily slapped on a 8/10 rating, but I know it deserved a 10/10. Because this first episode was incredible!

Now back to our other jealous female. Xuan Nu has been quiet, too quiet. Because her son is dead/not awake. So now she's scheming and it's bad!!!!!! To be honest I thought Bai Qian told Li Jing exactly who she was, but apparently not? *sighs* So Ye Hua has put all the pieces together and now Xuan Nu has. The only thing Xuan Nu doesn't know is that Bai Qian was also Su Su. Still. Xuan Nu is on the war path of destruction to awaken her child and it somehow involves Mo Yuan body. *sighs* Snake is very smart in this episode to protect her son protected. So now everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, is going to be in the mortal realm for this next tragedy. Not to mention Su Jin will be plotting against Bai Qian as she tries to help Snake's son and Xuan Nu is doing something with Mo Yuan and Riceball. Honestly this episode was a bit of a let down in a lot of parts. The two women conniving again, Li Jing not putting things together, and now we're starting up in the mortal realm big time.

Su Jin has truly become one of the worst characters ever. I can't stand to watch her. Yet, I can't help admiring the characters constant evil planning. Or the fact that she never really grows. At first I thought she had learned her lesson about plotting and what not. Nope. She's just gotten sneakier. Maybe. So Bai Qian thinks Ye Huan's end game is to find her Master. She's on full alert against that. All the while towards the end of the episode she gets a flashback to her mother talking about her not remembering things. Which to be far could happened right before she woke up. So I wonder if she will get her memories back. Personally I don't think the writer is good enough to get past the torture she endured as a human. It will fill hollow. To me clearly. Ye Hua's trails have definitely changed him. Sure his mood swinging, but at least he is actually happy and warm. He still needs "proof" that Bai Qian is Su Su, but he truly knows she is. Which will play into him constantly pushing to find Master Mo Yuan. In turn keeping Bai Qian on guard. It's clear there a too many similarities for her not to be Su Su. On that note I wouldn't want to leave the Fox Den or Bai Qian's people. They stood up for their queen and recognized evil when it came to cause trouble. How awesome! Now there's Ghost Realm creatures made of magic trying to mess with Die Fen and the other disciple. What is going on? Who is trying to stir the pot and create a mess. Not to mention will my dreams of Die Fen and Yan Zhi meeting and becoming a romance come true!!!??

Huh, so his son wasn't enough to live for? Well at least his love is deep. To be quite honest I thought all the High God's were aware of what was happening. Clearly Dijun is in on it and aware. I started it all with the Golden Lily. It was weird hearing the Old Phoenix's thoughts that he really hadn't pieced it together. Seriously. He has to know it's all connected by now. Clearly. Especially since Ye Hua's wounds were exactly like Bai Qian. That's is some stupid writer logic there. Li Jing. Li Jing. Even with all the bad things that happen to Celestial ladies they can't resist him. Heck they flock, fall, and literally toss themselves upon him. The confrontation between Li Jing and Bai Qian was interesting. Clearly it's over and they're just trying to make a forced love triangle. Despite all that I think Bai Qian is harboring some emotions still. Technically she never admitted what she felt towards Master Mo Yuan was anymore than disciple and master. Li Jing is the only man she is aware of loving. Because clearly that wine was not a memory restorer. At least Ye Hua has super proof so we the viewers don't have to watch him play with his emotions for many episodes on whether Bai Qian is Su Su. *sighs* Ye Hua is playing dirty. Having his son hang with Bai Qian how could the mother bound not work. It's also cool getting the full extent of the Fox Den and why the realm is way happier than the Celestial Realm. Clearly there's a reason the other realms are petty and the people are conniving/unhappy. So I've been nervous about this mortal plot with Dijun and Feng Jiu. So it seems Dijun is totally living as a mortal with no memories. Cause then he can admit what he truly wants. Someone to honestly and innocently with all their heart love him. So why does Feng Jiu get to keep her memories? Hmmmm. As long as this doesn't get as murderous/torturous to Feng Jiu. Gosh, I just can't take this female abuse. It's bad enough starting up with all those other ladies picking on her.

Ah, I've finally made it too the episode fans of the show love. The one that's supposed to make up for the torture of Bai Qian's Heavenly Trail of being mortal. (I loathed it.) I mean NiandNa said "I rewatched ep 30 like 25 times :D". It was truly awarding and if you are head over heals in love with this drama I know this episode is probably going to be perfection. I, however, can not be tricked at this point. ^_-I will say this had one heck of a meet queue. There is one thing Eternal Love excels at, that is making the perfect romantic first impression. When Ye Hua saves the drunk Bai Qian from her fall out of the peach tree it was EVERYTHING!!!!! Ye Hua knows with all his being that is Su Su and he's ready to kiss her. Bai Qian is drunk and moved by the emotions she sees from this man. She wants to kiss, but is resisting. Intense, adorable, and hilarious almost kiss all in one! Then after all that Bai Qian meets her son. It was so moving and cute! The little prince has no doubt this lady is his mother come back to his father! Despite what his dad said he never wavered in believing his mother would come back. Bai Qian and the little prince's interactions were perfection. That little boy wields his emotional blackmail well. I firmly believe every episode has a catch phrase or word. The drama will forever be "Presumptuous!" Especially when referring to Ye Hua and Bai Qian's romance. All of the little tie ins where awesome. From Bai Qian thinking "Presumptuous" when she bats Ye Huas hand a way. (A certain Crown Prince snake thought the same thing after getting a kiss.) The hand tapping, fan tapping, and the hell fire scar. I have enjoyed how certain personality ticks have been picked up from Bai Qian. I love an idea that ties in.It's so cute to see Bai Qian up to her old games! From tricking everyone into believing that she was simply an emissary and not the much desired to be seen Bai Qian of the Fox Tribe! The ultimate Aunt of the Celestials! Even telling the little prince she loves his father to make him feel better. Everything is so adorable and I love seeing my Bai Qian is back! Her being so bright even made the normal gloomy and annoying downer Ye Hua cool. See even he likes the real Bai Qian more. Thank goodness. Well this episode made up for so much. Now if only it could stay this way. Probably not, but at least for quite a few episodes. Does anyone think the lurking bad boy Li Jing is gonna pick up another fair Celestial maid? They flutter to him like moths to a flame.

Well Ye Hua and Bai Qian created one perceptive kid! He's all like: "You saved me thanks, now begone before you make the moves on my dad! See! See! What did I say! She's making the moves!" Phew. I feel exhausted for Ye Hua. All these ladies just have to have him! Conniving about! Pretty much all the women connive. Think on it very few have not. Though I don't think it's anything to compare with Li Jing. He's the ultimate bad boy. He don't even need to try. *snaps-snaps*Finally I got total confirmation. I hadn't realized that when Bai Qian had been going to see her niece that she had gotten lost. That was not explained. I thought the shortcut was through the Ghost Realm. So now I guess her whole confusion as a human getting lost in the forest so often makes since. Still. That can get through, but not her other awesome bits? This whole thing with Dijun going to the mortal realm is boring and off. I thought he had left 300 years to the mortal realm. But he's been their 60 years. Which does not compute with how time goes in heaven versus the mortal realm. A day in heaven is a year on earth. Does not compute! Does not compute. Either way I'm already bored with this whole in the mortal realm for Feng Jiu. I mean she's not even getting nervous that Dijun is the Emperor and that her card is on his sleep with consort list? Um. Hello! Women in the Fox Clan do not fair well being mortals. If this goes the way of Bai Qian's mortal arc I'm gonna bash some of my brains out! Oh, my! Bai Qian is drunk again! I can't believe she just went for the wine! He-he, okay I can. Old Phoenix might as well have put a sign on it that said "drink me now" after he told her not to. Makes me wonder if it's memory restore stuff? Though he said there was no way to bring her memories back . . . I hope the writing wouldn't flip-flop that fast. Now we end with one of the best things I've seen in many episodes: Bai Qian's cute, mischievous, and sassy smile!!!!!

Ye Hua gets high points for devotion. There are reasons he doesn't have to erase is memories. I don't care what anyone says. Bai Qian got the short end of the stick with this romance and was beaten bloody with it. It was sweet how he keeps the lamp burning, planting the trees, and seeing him with his son. For 300 years! I'm really surprised it wasn't a massive time leap. Feng Jiu has been cute and hasty. A clumsy character who normally has her heart in the right place. I found it terribly stupid that she wouldn't assume that a lamp that was in Ye Hua's private rooms AND was currently burning wasn't in use. Not to mention that it clearly would be noticed! Ugh! That's just bad writing character assassinating. All I truly can say about this episode is that it's lovely, I missed a lot of these characters, and it's so good to be out of Bai Qian's mortal arc. Thank. You. Thank. You.

Finally the original Bai Qian is back! Not to mention that Ye Hua finally does something great. So great I was actually surprised by it! Right through the heart! As Su Jin deserves. My question is why did Dijun say he needed to go the mortal realm to keep his promise of being with her? It was so great being back with old phoenix, Bai Zhen, and other much better characters. Gosh how I've missed them. Espcially Bai Qian! I enjoyed this episode so much more. Though it's clear the writer is already teasing viewers with how Bai Qian and Ye Hua will finally meet up. Though to be honest I don't really care when they get back together. I have no doubts that Eternal Love will be awesome and let Bai Qian finally get a deserving love interest. Though I am very curious about her Master waking up. Does this mean Ye Hua will die soon? Or that both men will be alive with the bits of shattered soul?

Finally this plot arc of mortal life torture for Bai Qian is over. It went exactly like I thought. Down into that black hole and out finally Bai Qian! Though my heart breaks as she thinks about the whole experience. Honestly I don't blame her for wanting to forget the whole thing. Though my blood thirsty side wants blood! Vengeance! Some righteous indignation and consequences for what happened to her. But I get it.Though maybe I'm jumping the gun. Maybe the writer will come up new and fun ways to torture the lead some more. *sighs* Bai Qian and Ye Hua's baby is pretty darn cute! It's heart breaking she never touched her son, but I get it with her plans of jumping into that hole. She figured she'd die or some grain of truth would send her elsewhere. The other birth was heart breaking as well. I truly felt for Li Jing. This episode ran a bit smoother than the last and I actually only skipped a few part. Gosh, I can't stand Su Jin anymore. Ugh. This drama is filled with really evil women! At times this episode was beautiful and breath taking. Then it would drag on or emphasis a little too long on horrible characters and flashbacks. I'm looking forward to moving on from this arc. I truly am.

There is no ignoring that scene transition!!!! What was the director thinking. Or the writer. Firstly that was choppy as heck I had to triple check to make sure the player didn't skip. Secondly, other jealous female willing to a kill for a man that has no interest!? WTF. -_-Speaking of WTF! So Bai Qian's reason for not wanting to be touched by Ye Hua is because she fears she's in the way of the person he really loves!!!!! ARGGGGGGGGGGGH! No. No. No. This man has only mislead and misinformed. Leading her to all kinds of torture. Let's be honest. He lied about keeping her company out there. Omission is a lie. This man took her eyes out himself. Couldn't he have explained everything. Patiently waited to become the head guy and then brought her out? All he had to do was be honest. Period.Events with my farvorite side story of Feng Jiu and Dijun were lovely. The only saving grace of this episode. Even with the whole chop away stuff. Dijun realizing his full extent of his feelings was moving. You could feel it burning the world down! Sadly he's either afraid or hiding something. Both. So away poor Feng Jiu goes. I still feel like this is all setup. No meat. During giving birth Bai Qian apparently tries to inadvertently break the seal. So I am right. Her memories and powers are just sealed away. The Ghost Lord says "the seal can only be broken if he dies or she dies." So I assume if Bai Qian dies her powers come back and she lives? Because if she just dies that not really breaking the seal . . .she'd be dead. Which is the foreshadowing I need. Who wants to guess what learning the walk to the evil-drop-off-worm-hole-of-death is for? If it gets Bai Qian back I'm all for it.

Actully fastforwarded through most of this episode. If it weren't for the huge plot setups I'd probably give this a 1/10. Normally I do not like to fastforward. Bai Qian had to have some clue that Su Jin set her up at the start. Not to mention after learning that "Su Jin and Ye Hua were a couple". Or at the very least that Su Jin wants Ye Hua. No one is that niave. Especially living amongst such horrible people. So Dijun must know everything. He's letting it all happen? Why. Clearly he started things in motion with the Golden Lily. But the one who is truly suffering is Bai Qian. No one deserves this! She sacrificed her self for peace and she's getting pooped on be everyone. People have told me episode 30 is amazing. Things better start turning around. I want my old Bai Qian back now! Clearly some part of her has woken up as she doesn't want Ye Hua to touch her. Perhaps the betrayal and crisis is too much. Finally Ye Hua will beable to have his lady, but she won't have him. Or that's how it should go.

Wow. Just when you think no one could top Xuan Nu. Su Jin, Holy cow. Yep. Su Jin and the Heavenly Father were clearly meant to be together. Two horrible individuals wielding their power for evil. To totally contorl others when they don't feel that way. Thanks to the opening and ending credits I knew Bai Qian would go blind. The manner in which she goes blind is horrible. Honestly this is beyond annoying. Bai Qian should have clearly been aware that Su Jin had it out for her. She should have been super aware. Core Bai Qian should be in there.Instead we have doormat waiting for the next shuffle across her and maybe a few stomps. Ye Hua's actions were to spare her, but he's handled this badly from the start. Even if he marries her it's all over anyway. My only thoughts are when the real Bai Qian come back will she get her eyes back? I'm starting to fear that I was baited and switched here. Strong female lead who can handle herself and not be bullied, JK. We destroyed her to be a simpering dolt. *sighs* Okay, so she's pretty brave to handle it all but still. End notes I can not believe the evil of Su Jin to actually come back and gloat. Also, Li Jing clearly won that war for Ye Hua. Yet where does the credit go. I had no idea that the Lion was so loyal to Yan Zhi. While he was a terrible person it was moving he did that for her. It should also be a wake up call to Yan Zhi which brother she should be trusting.

When Fourth Brother Bai Zhen (AKA fox clan's 4th Prince) talks about how no one can bully Bai Qian I have hope this is heavy handed foreshadowing. Because this push over Bai Qian is beyond tiring. So does Bai Qian have to become immortal, or is it all sealed away!!!! *rattling cage* In other gossip I can't help but feel pity for Xuan Nu. Which is all she's ever schemed for. Pity so she can get attention. The problem is she's been awful, and karma is gonna get her. I fear it's gonna have something to do with this baby. If this was an American soap opera I'd say Xuan Nu's dies and is swapped for Bai Qian. Considering Heavenly Father felt the unborn child I'm sure he couldn't get lost . . . or how does that work? After it's born it can't be tracked anymore. Or else wouldn't Heavenly Father always be able to tell where is grand kids and sons are? I thought Feng Jiu was in fox form because she was still faking injurery. I mean how could Dijun not now that she can transform into a fox. Apparrently he's toying with her. While it's super addorable I think she should leave. Tell Dijun she owes him and he can contact when he knows how. Then go. Oh, well. Let the cuteness continue and Dijun keeping playing with her.I find it frustrating that Feng Jiu doesn't even second guess that the human looks like Bai Qian. I know she doesn't knwo that Bai Qian is missing . . . I think she doesn't know. Or she'd be looking everywhere. I'm still hoping for the Snake to say something. *sighs*The whole mirror thing was weird too. Ye Hua had one, but then Su Jin still had it. Then Su Jin uses it to play Bai Qian and then Ye Hua came and got it. There's a lot of plot holes popping up here. There was enough character growth and depth to make me feel better. Still it's getting a bit too much. On a positive note Li Jing is truly growing. At least in my affections. He's turned into a much better person when he's not left to lounge about the palace with his harem. Honestly at this point I like Li Jing more than Ye Hua. Despite what Li Jing did in the past.

Seriously!?? How many people have seen Bai Qian now! No one has thought "hmmmmmmm, this is too much of a coincidence". I mean this is outside the realm of reincarnation.Ye Hua is frustrating the crap out of me. Bai Qian needs to get her memories back now! I mean how could the old Ghost Lord just take away her immortality? It has to all be sealed just like her memories. I'm ready to be done with this. I doubt I'll get in righteous vengeance.I was so excited to see Snake and thought she'd maybe say something. She is the key to someone finding out I know it! After all Feng Jiu is nothing but close calls constantly. How infuriating. Not to mention how Su Jin is playing Heavenly Father. Of course, he's all for finally letting a woman help him. Man I hate that guy. Not to mention the blame all the women get when it's the men clearly seducing and then getting the women in trouble! Xuan Nu is nothing but a jealous lady. Not even able to understand the trouble she's caused for Li Jing. Poor Bai Qian now has Su Jin and Xuan Nu at her throat.Bai Qian better get to realize who she is and put some jerks int heir places. Though I'm pretty sure I've stepped into the storytelling of "look what new horrible fate falls the female lead." Honestly, it's one of the most annoying tropes I've always hated in dramas.

This is a lot of settling into place and characters jockeying with each other. For me, it was rather all boring. But I get it's setting things up for the next act. Though I find myself increasingly more annoyed with Ye Hua. If I had told you anything it would have ended up this way. Heck no! If he would have been honest about the type of danger she was in then she would not have run out of that barrier. Then again this is a drama and the likelihood of them letting a woman keep her cool and be smart is low.I really had hopes for Su Jin's character. Considering what her clan did I thought she would be . . . more. Not just the stereotypical evil female that's trying to get the male leads attention. The writers have really dropped the ball there. It surprises me how self righteous Xuan Nu is. To not even think for a moment about how she betrayed the Celestials. I mean I think she's lucky they let her come there at all. This is clearly setting up a lot of things and it's just slowing down so much for me in that regard. There's a few great character moments, but not enough. That said when did Ye Hua get his mirror back? This feels like a huge plot leap.
