I must say, I agree and happy to read this. Once upon a time I almost hated chinese dramas because the v/o was sooo bad. The bad lipsynch and dub killed it for me. Then eventually, past (maybe 5 years?) years, the dubbing has become a lot more accurate and on point in both synching and emotions, not to mention the SFX in general. The result sucks you in and have at least made me, a believer and a new fan.
It wasn't until I started studying mandarin myself that I actually understood the diversity in the language and with it accepted dubbing as a welcome gift, because, to be honest, yes, the different nuances of the language is a nightmare. I doubt it would be doable for real, today, if stuff wasn't dubbed.
However, despite a "bad" review, must say I am impressed they still pulled throw , considered they got all their equipment wiped out in the hurricane which made both Amore and the shore delayed. That and a fairly young producing company riding on the Youtube and BL-wave (pun intended). But bad productions might hurt them in the future, so we will see I guess.
Seriously, another toxic I-dislike-gay-oops-I-became-gay-after-liking-a-boy-series. Why is it toxic? Because its a disguised anti-gay propaganda imo. Love shouldnt be about gender, true but it doesnt mean that you always have to negate gay people in the process. "Do I have to be gay to like a guy?" "you dont have to be gay to like someone of same gender" The misdirected "all love should be accepted" on top of face-palm sound and visual mishaps, makes the series hard to take serious.
S chizophreniaseems also to be the new amnesia. As advocate and ambassador for brain damage, I felt realy uncomfortable for their "promoting" of mental health.
Another disturbing thing, sex related. So David complained about "gays only want to use us for sex"-yet he was the first one to take of Simons shirt and well... ^^
All of that said, the ep 8 and 9 intimate scenes were descent and for a moment even hawt. The kisses were believable to some degree.Kudos for that. Up to ep 7-8, everything felt like syrup.
After almost read the entire webtoon I can say this: The message is clear; never judge a book by its cover and also, Korean- beauty standards are NOT healthy. Everyone have issues and that is the red thread of True Beauty (hence the title too)
it still hurts my heart to know he is still semi banned from the industry . He has to do a lot of pro-bono jobs to rebuild his career, so sad. One would think that even by getting several prices people would be queuing to work with him but its not true. He is still struggling post the huge ordeal with censorship toxic fans caused earlier :(

So, thanks for the article, spot on!
The intimacy was decent.
Acting was ok.
Production and execution, dreadful.
Or the dna test thing.. didnt know if I should cry or laugh tbh
