Ok so it's gonna sound weird but my first drama was Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge from an anime loving friend happening to find it online. Then Hana Kimi, then HYD, then Asahi TV's My Girls and it was then that I figured out the music I loved on these things were Arashi and the rest was history. And, can I just say, your description of Johnny's and the 6 degrees was enough to literally make me laugh out loud. It's been 12 years now. I've expanded to include JUMP and Kis-My-Ft2 in my daily listening and now regularly watch shows from Korea and China too. But it all started with Johnny's. :)
Since when did drama name links on this site redirect to a for pay site instead of the drama's page on MDL? I don't care if they sponsored the article and only their stuff is listed, but at least one of the two links associated with the drama should go to the drama's page on MDL and not on a third party.
Don't get me wrong she is wise and brave but sometimes she makes dumb decisions dangerous ones still she's one…
Completely agreed. Some of it I blame on being a new adult and some of it I see a modern woman trapped in a time and family where that's not really accepted. She's one of my favorite complex characters. I'm so happy to find a fellow Qin Sang fan! So many of my friends don't get her and don't see why I love rewatching this show.
Qin Sang isn't reckless? I'm rewatching this one right now (strange coincidence :D) but I'd argue that she's almost reckless to the point of being mildly suicidal. She goes to the mountain in ep 1 after Lian Kai knowing there's a significant chance of dying there. She's willing to run away from her family with the SML even though he literally wants to overthrow the government a la the French Revolution. We all know how bloody that got. And then, when retrieving Mr. Fan's body she literally says, "If he can't win the fight then kill me." Yeah she knew who was going to be fighting for her but that's still a hell of a risk when we know that the guy in question is not going to flinch at killing anyone. Sure she weighs the probabilities but I'd argue that anyone who can bet their life in this kind of situation is reckless. Incidentally, I agree totally with your arguments and the timing at which you wish to slap some sense into her. But in all fairness, I felt that way at some point towards every single character in this drama lol!
I've been a drama watcher for just shy of 10 years and there's things I've noticed to help me get through patches like this. First, switch it up and try watching things from other countries. I love watching different adaptations of shows I liked to see how they get interpreted to work in different cultures. Second, it's cool to have watching gaps! Especially if you're a big dramathoner, you're going to need a break. I try to avoid dramathoning more than 2 shows in a row without switching to a US show for a bit to break it up or I stop enjoying my shows. Third, let's be real; while there are always new dramas, it's no fun if you don't feel a connection to them and are slogging through just to say you saw it. There are enough options to be choosy and drop things or put them on hold until you're ready to continue them. Lastly, do you watch any variety tv? That's a great way to break up a funk with something different but in the same ballpark. I've spent whole months watching (my) back logged Itadaki High Jump episodes from when they first started the show and that was a blast!
First Yay!!!! Second, is there a known sync lag? I added a new show on the app and it's not showing up immediately on the web. If not, as we said when I was on a software dev team, "Log that bug!!" Seriously this is awesome though and I know the work that went into making it so thank you so much.
This is absolutely amazing and I love the dedication that this took. Maybe the only thing I would add (since I am a Potterhead too) is that Hufflepuffs are also "particularly good finders!" :)
Wow most of the ones you picked would not be my top pick for these guys except for maybe My Girl.
Ok so my Arashi story: I saw HanaDan as my third ever drama and My Girl as my fifth. The song just spoke to me (not to mention the father/daughter plot cause it was about 8 months after my dad died) and the voices seemed familiar so I looked it up. And that was it, I am a fan and will be for life. Seriously, seeing them perform live is on my bucket list. More than just their individual talents, their talents as a working team are amazing. To stay together for 15 years as both solo and group performers is something I can't even imagine. And the best part is they are so incredibly talented as individuals that making them a team just creates something magical.
Anyway my top picks would be:
Ohno: Kagi no Kakatta Heya (Such a fun and weird character. Reminded me of an alternative Sherlock Holmes and I loved it.)
Sakurai: Yoiko no Mikata (His character is so sweet even though I know the acting was more impressive in Kazoku Game. To the point where I was super uncomfortable with it and it took me like 6 months to force myself through it.)
Aiba: My Girl (For exactly the reasons in this article.)
Ninomiya: Yamata Taro Monogatari (But really I think he excels in movies more than dramas. Platina Data was jaw dropping.)
Matsumoto: Smile (I cried for about 7 minutes in that scene in ep11 *no spoilers* and you will too. It was amazing.)
Naka Riisa and Ninomiya Kazunari. I know one's a girl and one's a guy but they look eerily similar especially if you catch a moment where someone dressed Nino like a girl. I'd love to see them play siblings some day but so far no casting director has gotten that smart. I'll keep waiting.
I find myself doing this all the time! I haven't watched any of these dramas but from what I've heard about some of them you seem right on the money. I really see it a lot when I go look at video from actors when they were young to when they are established and see all the progress they made. I think part of the reason they get better is just more life and acting experience lead them to better roles and opportunities.
I'm agreeing that the PM and I is the King and I. The plot reads basically the same especially if the woman does have a child. The original story was about an almost romance or at least the development of grudging respect between two different cultures which doesn't seen like it will be included here. The real fun part with Yul Brynner and that movie was he did a perfectly framed polka with a broken back and no way was he wearing a brace because he wasn't wearing enough clothes to hide one. He still went on to do many performances of the musical all over. It was kind of his role.
You said you haven't picked the Tsukushi character yet but the role is a dancer. Are you looking for a trained dancer for this role? It is always painful to watch untrained people try to fake that they know dance.
Oh My God!!!!! I'm so excited. And, I'm really glad that they won't be big names that I might associate with other characters. HanaDan was my third drama ever. Will the version be following one country's adaptation more than any other or will it have it's own spin on the plot? I know there might be some changes because of cultural differences but the different versions take some drastic changes partway through though they all end similarly. Any hints?
I would say the expensive phone and seemingly unlimited minutes. Even with characters who are supposedly really poor, people in dramaland are always sporting the newest model of phones.
This is so funny! You should seriously think about rewriting a fanfic twilight with BOF characters because it is absolutely hilarious! As someone who enjoyed both series (don't judge all you twi-hard haters!) I found it fun and would love to read more. :)
