The only thing that icks me is the Tang's mandarin accent. It sounds so weird and forced, like someone who just finished Mandarin courses. I can't help but cringe everytime they speak :(
I finished The Great Battle just to watch another story of Um Tae Goo (Hyunmin) and Seolhyun (Jiyoung), and damnnnn Seolhyun always 'follows' Tae Goo's death in whichever timeline they're both in.
On normal occasions, it won't be so heartbreaking because the couple's story wasn't the prime highlight and there's no sufficient background in the movie but dang I bawled my eyes out because I can't help but remember the Light Shop scene when Jiyoung texted Hyunmin that she'll follow wherever he goes, thinking he's already dead.
The way she refuses to leave despite her three-days time is up, because she still wants to save Hyunmin.. The Great Battle couldn't even more heartbreaking.
I can't help but think that Pa-so and Baek-ha's deaths are unnecessary.. they still win in the end.

I wonder why Hyunmin is never seen in the alley where all of the mcs going around on a loop (the house writer girl, the schoolkids). The alley is like a tunnel where all of the "almost-dead" face their "purgatory". But Hyunmin isn't there. He was always on the bus, to his apartment, on a loop. Is it because he was supposed to be dead, but Jiyoung/Seolhyun's will is the only thing that keep him alive?
Having completed the episode I'm a little embarassed. The nurse actually just casually answered a lot of my questions…
I think this is basically the reason why they release all 4 episodes at once. They wanted to build up the atmosphere for the drama and create convincing world and plot to make us all on edge, scared, tense, and confused so that we'll finally understand everything by the end of episode 4. I was confused as hell too in the first three episodes, but I really like how the drama confuse me because I was so sure all the answers will be revealed in the end. That's why I think people who complained that the show was confusing either must have not really watched it or must have stopped before episode 4 where it's revealed that all of them are spirits/ghosts except maybe the nurse. I don't even think the shopowner is human. His reflection was shown to be really old, he might be somekind of a demihuman.
They should have cast an actual elderly person for the role of Tian'er instead of relying on heavy makeup. The poorly executed makeover makes it look unnatural, as if the actress is wearing a cheap Halloween mask.
Moreover, itβs not just about physical appearance. Elderly individuals have a distinct gaze that reflects their long life and varied experiences. The actress lacks these subtleties and the acting skills needed to portray someone who has three great-grandchildren. Her 'spirit' seems too young.
In the novel Ah Heng is his real blood daughter but I think bcs of china regulations they had to alter it a bit…
Ah.. I see. That's unfortunate because during that era it was totally normal to marry cousins.. and showing it only makes it more realistic and stay true to that time.. but yeah, it's gonna ick a lot of people for sure if they are first cousins in the drama.
I know some people felt that way, but I enjoyed it. The song has definitely grown on me.What I find interesting…
in which episode did XL sing it w/o playing qin?! how did I miss it? π±
if you meant the scene where the Lirong uncle saw XL and thought he was Chi Chen, I think it gave a totally different impression with XL playing qin scene. Probably because XL's hair was fluttering and with all the effects and his expression.. that's probably why.. but I enjoy the song, I love TJC's voice!
I need help from someone to clarify something for me..So is Aheng a.k.a Xiao Yao's mother, the daughter of Xiyan King? Because if it's only bcs Heng is Xiyan's wife's disciple, and Heng is crowned Grand Princess to fight the war with Chi Cheng, the Xiyan king's attention and love toward XY feels a bit too personal, and not because he's only grateful to Heng for ending the war with Chenrong..Can someone enlighten me with their family tree? π
tbh the way XL played the qin is very.. out of character.. and idk why it brings me second hand embarrassment.. maybe the way the song sounds a tad bit too modern, or XL's expression.. or both
I kinda feel bad for Wanning, especially after I know about her past in Dai country.
I still hate Shen Yurong until the end. No excuses. He's such a useless parasite who only pities himself.
The scene where XFF finally tells the truth about Jiang Li's death to Grand Chancellor Jiang is very sad. His expression, ugh. And also it kinda gives me the closure I need when XFF still calls him father even after both know the truth. Meaning, Jiang Yuan Bai somehow gets himself another daughter lol.
And, what about XFF's infidelity rumor? I guess it was never properly addressed. Shen and Wanning's infidelity is only a street rumor and never really addressed properly so I'm kinda disappointed in that part.
I agree, the last 30 mins is kinda unnecessary. I know that Dai Country is bound to act up without King Cheng, but I thought they were never that strong to the point of Xiao Heng losing 2 precious people by his side. I feel like that part of the story is very rushed. They should either extricate it from the drama completely, or make it into another arc with proper explanation.
Overall, I'm so satisfied with this drama, even with the odd several close-ups of XH biting XFF's memento XD
I donβt think the stepmother deserves her current fate at the end. She did so many evil things though. Such…
I'm still waiting for Ep 29 to see how she will be punished, and it icks me that the slander about Jiang Li pushing Ji Shuran and make her lost her baby isn't revealed to Jiang Yuanbai yet. The whole world needs to know that OG Jiang Li is slandered, that way the revenge against OG Jiang Li will only be complete.
I love it that after Jiang Li almost got SA'd by Zhou Yan Bang, she can still sleep peacefully and comfortably in the presence of Duke Su. This shows how deep her feelings for him, and how much trust she has in him. Although both of them never explicitly state their feelings towards each other, but the way they feel comfortable and supportive of each other is more than enough to show their deep love.
And one more thing, I definitely love how Jiang Li no longer feel embarrassed or prideful to ask for Duke Su's assistance whenever she needed it. It's almost as if they have tacit understanding that Duke Su won't stand in her way of revenge and instead will be a fully supportive partner instead. Some dramas depict female characters as being so against to feel indebted to ML and so the ML need to secretly help them, but I love how in this drama Jiang Li never feel insulted to be a pawn of Duke Su's political game. LOVE, LOVE LOVE THEIR RELATIONSHIP!!!
itβs difficult for me to like male actors, iβve took a liking to only three so far but xu kaiβs acting is…
I watched Ashes of Love, Immortal Samsara, Oath of Love, Lost You Forever, and Love Endures. Each drama she stars has its own charm.
I recommend Lost You Forever because I like her the best there! I think it was the peak of her acting skill as well, and the characterization of her role is really good. The story is interesting with handsome and great actors starring in it.
But if you're not fond of Reverse Harem drama, Immortal Samsara and Ashes of Love are good too. Both are pretty angsty, mind you.
For modern drama I like her in Love Endures because I prefer her hairstyle there, but her chemistry with the ML is a bit lacking. For wonderful romance and soaring chemistry in modern setting, watch Oath of Love ππ»
Go Go Squid is in my watchlist, I heard her chemistry with ML is great there too. And both are re-casted for a historical drama that will air in the future!
dang, the way MCH threw the card to the floor in front of Jiali and Mr. Xin apologizing and thanking her is the most satisfying scene of the last episode! The Xin family is really disgusting, especially Jiali. Now that they are cornered, she wants to secure inheritance by telling her brother to marry someone she hates so much. Ugh, I think she's not carrying a human baby but a devil!
