Yes he does a lot for her, but he isn't around her so much anymore, if we don’t count the unconscious years, and dies knowing he did what he set out to do for her. Make her protected and happy and in arms of someone who will never let her go.

He is at war with them 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️, outsourced and outgunned. Xiyan is a kingdom, they don’t lack resources. But he has a few soldiers of resistant army, I don’t see anything wrong with his actions. We can always see him worrying about resources for them whilst they make fun of him because he is a demon. If that isn’t noble, then I don’t know what is.

I do feel that from the moment he said he needs to leave and walking out on her, that scene of him walking away in the distance is very significant. From now on he will be distancing himself more and more from her.

I saw an interview with Yangzi where she said that if only XL has confessed, the likely end of the novel would have been different.

Actually she was willing, he asked XL to stop the wedding because he couldn’t and was desperate.

My understanding was that he is blocking her from his feelings, there was couple of times in the novel, when she felt his pain, but she didn’t connect the dots.

I know what you feel, after finishing the novel, I felt the pain and I felt a bit numb inside. Because I am Team XL I wouldn’t say it was a happy ending, but it was the ending our hero wanted. He will always be, one of my most favourite fictional characters. along with Zhou Sheng Chen from One and Only. They are both, Beautiful Bones.

Wait and see. It’s because XL is so damn selfless, never letting her be too broken-hearted for him. Imagine the pain she would feel knowing all he actually did for her, the extend of his love for her. How well would she cope after he was gone. I think the ending was done right, but yes, my heart breaks for XL. Because of the love bug, he knew what was in her heart, he knew she loved him but he also knew she would be safer with someone else.

Well I remember from the novel, that FFB and XY had been going out having fun for over a year. It’s definitely not been 15 years for Jing and her.

I don’t hate his character, he just doesn’t float my boat. Nothing wrong with him being a different personality. I said it before, all three of them are red flags and I stand by it. But since our female lead is also a red flag, who cares. It’s just silly to pretend one of them is a green flag. Jing is going to give our girl comfort for the rest of her life. It’s a sweet uncomplicated love between them, where with XL it’s fire and passion and those two would burn bright. But, that’s what happened to her mum and although her heart says yes to XL her head says yes to Jing, she loves them both.

The Voodoo King's face scrunched up "The Lover's Bug - either live in love or die in heartbreak. Once the Lover's Bug has been planted there is no way to break the spell. It is impossible. This is what I was trying to say earlier for why so few people raise it despite the great benefit. Only very determined girls would raise the bug but even if they successfully raise it, it's near impossible to find a man willing to accept the other bug to be planted in him.

The Voodoo King coughed once and solemnly explained "Lover's Bug, like its name indicates is a pair of male-female voodoo bugs. The couple who has the bug successfully planted will have their life and emotions connected. If one hurts then the other will hurt. If one is injured then the other will also be injured."

Xiao Yao said "This I know already. What else?"

"To outsiders voodoo is considered mysterious and bad, but really it’s a craft and magic that the Jiu Li tribe has passed down through generations to protect and heal us. Jiu Li has lots of deadly insects, deadly plants, deadly gasses, to live here our ancestors had to learn to understand it and control it. Voodoo is seen as a harmful power but we actually mostly use it here to save lives. The Lover's Bug keeps two people's lives connected, which means when one is injured as long as the other is healthy then then injured person will survive. This is a very good thing.
Even if the Lover's Bug is notoriously hard to grow, it ought to still be relatively prevalent since many people will try to grow it. So why it is so rare to see?"

Xiao Yao asked "Why?"

"All living things that have a benefit must also carry a harm. The greater the benefit than the greater the potential for harm. The Lover's Bug is exactly that. It can lead two people to be connected in life and emotions but it is just like a pair of lovers in love with each other. It is tempermental and hard to control. If the Lover's Bug turns on each other then both people will die. Which is why the Lover's Bug also has another name, the Heartbreak Bug."

Jing stared in dismay at Xiao Yao who quickly said "It can't be as scary as he makes it out to be. It's been over seventy years and I'm still just fine.

The Voodoo King's expression changed as he stared at Jing "You're not the man the other bug is planted in?"
"No."
The Voodoo King stared in shock at Xiao Yao "Can I feel the bug in you?"

Xiao Yao nodded

The Voodoo King didn't move so he was likely using a bug inside of himself to sense. He furrowed his brows and murmured "It really is a Lover's Bug! But how is this possible?

'Lovers who raise the bug produce the Lover's Bug, Not Lovers who raise the bug produce the Heartbreak Bug.' The Lover's Bug is different than other voodoo bugs and absolutely requires the couple to willingly accept the bug for it to be successfully planted. If the man you successfully planted the other bug in is not your lover, then how did you plant it in him?"

Xiao Yao said "You might not know as much as your ancestors, the bug could be more multi-facted and evolving in ways beyond your understanding.

The Voodoo King was still perplexed. But it was clear that the young man sitting beside Xiao Yao was clearly her beloved so the rest of what he wanted to say wasn't suitable for discussing at this time.
He smoothed things over "Miss you are likely right, the bug inside of you is different than other bugs. Likely Miss and the other man have very unique bodily compositions.
Xiao Yao inwardly sighed in relief "He is very unique!" Since the bug was planted, only Xiang Liu could sense her but she could never sense him.

No thoughts about it being because of the cover but she also doesn’t explain exactly why .

"Why do you think? Fang Feng Bei!"
Fang Feng Bei was quiet for a moment and then reached for Xiao Yao's hand and two sharp teeth appeared and pierced through her wrist. This was the first time Xiao Yao could see him sucking her blood. There was no pain, only the frisson of cool excitement.
Xiao Yao intently watched Fang Feng Bei but when he glanced over her she immediately closed her eyes docilely! How could it be that she was still scared of him!
After some time, Xiao Yao started to feel dizzy but said nothing. This was Xuan Yuan Castle, he had to heal as quickly as possible!
Fang Feng Bei finished drinking her blood and he gently licked the bite and Xiao Yao's bleeding stopped. When he put down her wrist, there was no bite anymore and what remained looked like a passionate kiss mark.
Fang Feng Bei softly said "Xiao Yao."
Xiao Yao couldn't open her eyes and murmured "I'm fine, you heal now and after I sleep it'll be fine.
Fang Feng Bei rummaged through her boxes of medicines and took out a pill and fed it to her.
Fang Feng Bei then laid down and closed his eyes to self-heal.
Xiao Yao slept until it was nearly noon and when she opened her eyes, she immediately looked at Fang Feng Bei. He was still laying there with his eyes closed and she relaxed her worried heart.
Xiao Yao knew he couldn't move but could hear so she said softly "I'm going out to eat since
I'm hungry. No one will come in so you heal in peace

For me it’s a collective award, from acting and directing, story, OST, costumes, the cinematography is one of the best I have seen to come out of Asia in a very very long time. As a photographer, I love the contrast, colours and some of the frames would win photo awards.
