That wasn’t my take, I felt he was upset because all that talk about how she has no one to rely on etc, which swayed his heart towards her as someone of the same mixture of loneliness and longing, light and dark, love and loyalty (as described elsewhere) and there she is granddaughter of the emperor, daughter of a king with the entire empire bowing to their feet at the look of her.

My take on it is that XL is the enemy of the Yellow Emperor, so she is talking about him.
