Additionally, the order of events are not the same. In the book, Xiao Liu (already as princess) takes up archery to protect herself better. One of the leads teaches her archery and collects rare magical things for the creation of a a special bow that she could use to protect herself. But in the drama, we see him coming to the weapon maker to commission the bow, before she is even out of the village and still hidden in a man’s body. She hasn’t taken up the archery yet.

If you are talking about why XL is the only one feeling pain, it’s because he is blocking his pain from reaching her. Xuan also loves her, in his own way and she loves him. But remember the walnut hasn’t disappeared after she planted the bug on Xuan. It hasn’t planted itself very firmly and that’s why she was able to take it out. But the walnut disappeared once XL willingly taken the bug in himself.
I have logged in IMDB to have a look at the ridiculously low rating as someone mentioned here in comments. There are some nasty reviews, talking about Yang Zi being mediocre in looks and acting. I don’t know who has the time to waste on 1🌟 ratings slating the story, the actors and the director 🤦🏼♀️. Why being so personal. Poor girl, she has so many haters out there.
You could think that if she can defend herself, he also won’t get hurt 😉. I could only recommend to read the novel if you really want to know in detail.
I am a bit disappointed they brought the bow commission ahead. It has no context here, it wasn’t commissioned until Xiao Yao was already a princess and spent years as a companion of Xiang Liu as Fang Feng Bei

I think she’s never been very honest with her feelings to XL, he is a very complex character after all. The novel contain a lot more detail than the show. She never feels his feelings even since she has the bug, he is blocking her from it. He is super strong when it comes to his powers and she is weak. She keeps all the things he has done for her secret and it’s not easy to love someone like that. It’s easier to love Jing, he wears his heart on his sleeve for her. So does she love him? If she didn’t then she would have the Heartbreak bug in her and not the Lovers bug. I think here is where the answer lies.
From the novel the Voodoo King explained to XY that "Lover's Bug, like its name indicates is a pair of male-female voodoo bugs. The couple who has the bug successfully planted will have their life and emotions connected. If one hurts then the other will hurt. If one is injured then the other will also be injured."
The Lover's Bug keeps two people's lives connected, which means when one is injured as long as the other is healthy then then injured person will survive. This is a very good thing. Even if the Lover's Bug is notoriously hard to grow, it ought to still be relatively prevalent since many people will try to grow it. So why it is so rare to see?"
"All living things that have a benefit must also carry a harm. The greater the benefit then the greater the potential for harm. The Lover's Bug is exactly that. It can lead two people to be connected in life and emotions but it is just like a pair of lovers in love with each other. It is tempermental and hard to control. If the Lover's Bug turns on each other then both people will die. Which is why the Lover's Bug also has another name, the Heartbreak Bug."
The Voodoo King didn't move so he was likely using a bug inside of himself to sense. He furrowed his brows and murmured "It really is a Lover's Bug! But how is this possible? 'Lovers who raise the bug produce the Lover's Bug, Not Lovers who raise the bug produce the Heartbreak Bug.' The Lover's Bug is different then other voodoo bugs and absolutely requires the couple to willingly accept the bug for it to be successfully planted. If the man you successfully planted the other bug in is not your lover, then how did you plant it in him?"
"What happens if one person who has the Lover's Bug dies? What happens to the other person?" The Voodoo King sighed "Our Jiu Li folk ballad sings 'The twisted roots of the parasol tree entwine on land, the doves do not fly alone in the sky, the pair of mandarin ducks in the water always die together."
Episode 7 and I'm sick of Xiang Liu when is he going to die? Things are also getting repetitive when is the drama…
From reading the novel, I can tell you he won’t die anytime soon. He is one of the most important people of the novel. Perhaps this drama isn’t for you.
Right ? there are 72eps, we are here just ep 12. At the end, one will have the girl, one will have the world,…
Reading the novel, you realise how much he actually loves her and sacrifice for her. He will never tell. He is an amazing complex character and would be a true soulmate to her but they are both standing on opposite battlefields. Tushan Jing is a safe bet for her, but I think she is too safe for her character.
