Yess, I was already familiar with the children's game from As the Gods Will. Although I haven't watched Friends Games yet, it also sounds similar to Liar Game. Squid Game was able to recapture these different aspects from other media. And because South Korean media is becoming a lot more popular because of Kpop, Squid Game was able to succeed in the market, so much so that locals are now discussing it

I agree. I'm team AiB but I do understand the hype around SG, especially the relevancy and discussion around money. I myself was only interested in 3 characters (including Sae Byeok). I really like Wi Ha Joon as an actor but he didn't really contribute much. He was just there to tie a loose end. I also didn't care for the organ trafficking arc. I really like AiB because it was strategic, e.g. the rules around the visa and finding ways to survive the different games. The side characters in AiB were also fun and interesting, especially Chishiya. My only real criticism of AiB is how male-gazey it can be at times. To an extent, it can be used to prove a point, and the women are badasses. SG, however, allows more equality in smaller ways, e.g. having them all wear the same uniform.

I AGREE!! The AiB games were more fun for me because they were strategic. I also didn't mind AiB not focusing too much on relationships. I wasn't even invested in most of the relationships in SG to be honest.

Ahh, I really like your point about the characters making the choice to play. It was more unique than other shows and films with a survival game aspect. I also agree with the fact that it was made with the intention to be discussed and remembered through the memes. I personally do like AiB more and that's mainly because it felt more strategic. I was always interested in knowing the different ways to win. Squid Game sometimes got boring when it felt like games dragged on (I didn't like the marble game especially).
Everyone is talking about how they want the FL with the SML but I don't. She's also a toxic character and it feels like she sometimes just uses the SML as a rebound even though she's aware of his feelings for her. I ship the main characters with therapy rather than each other...

Her mental illness doesn't excuse the fact that she won't sign the papers allowing the children to go to China. The children's dad will have to go to China eventually because his visa will run out, and if he can't take the children back to China, they'll be put up for adoption.
