I've more or less just caught up, and I'm already deeply, deeply besotted with everything about this drama. I think it's already demonstrated itself as a master-craft in writing, acting and direction β possibly so much more, too. There are so many intricate story threads of intrigue sewn in right from the word go (who could have told me that a purple rooftop could turn out to be so meaningful in retrospect?), that have kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
I love the love stories, especially β from the romantic ones and all their parallels through the generations, to the ones between parent and child, and the love between friends and partners, too β the significance of an old bullet-wound, or a pair of boots. So many characters in this are already so dear to me.
I can't stop thinking about it, even when I should be thinking of other things β and I'm very, very eagerly anticipating the next episodes.
This drama has a good dialogue and people don't take that into account. Just because it sounds smooth and also…
You make an interesting point, and I think you might be quite right! I honestly tend to prefer stories that have a lot of character moments; a lot of my favourite scenes are sometimes when two characters are just sitting down together. I think the drama's deeper than a lot of people give it credit for, and I got a good deal of meaning from it too. I very strongly admired how well I thought it stuck to its pro-worker theme, and I felt like it added a lot of heart and dimension to the show.

I couldn't agree more β and I think you've made an interesting point about it not being well-suited binge-watching; I wonder if that plays into the way people have been commenting about it.
Within its genre as a light rom-com, I really do think it was well written, and overall well-executed series (I talked about my love for it more in my own review). But I think some of the comments I've seen reducing stories like this to "garbage", to being made for "fear of failure" β or making up some writers who "could've written something amazing, [...] but don't get a chance" or "a spit in the face of actual hardworking scripts written by AI, as I've seen in the reviews, are severely overestimating how easy it is to create something that's been light, fun and enjoyable like this to many.
To the people saying these things: are you a writer whose works don't get a chance because of stories like this being made? Do you know anybody in your life who is?
Do you know anybody who is making light and fun stories β do you know what kind of difficulties and hardships go into it β or how much the writers might care about these types of stories too, or are you fighting in the name of some imaginary cause because you think it sounds like a good moral position?
Even if you do know somebody, or you yourself also write, and know every pain that can come from writing, know how much work even goes into creating something lighthearted and whimsical like this β don't disrespect the craft of others. Your favourite hardworking and overlooked writers with the works you'd deem imaginative and fresh won't thank you. It's just coldhearted.
they have such a stable relationship that is a complete joy to watch unfold! I seriously need more romcoms that…
I'd forgotten all about that one β but Kim Soo Hyun & Kim Ji Won as the main leads, AND screenwriter Park Ji Eun β where the characters are already married? My gosh. Sign me up already.

I completely agree! It's something I found interesting and refreshing about Flower Of Evil, that the characters are already married with a child before the drama began β but I can't say that I've seen it in a lot else, even though I'd quite honestly love to.
I really, really do believe that the characters getting together earlier, and continuing to be a major source of support and comfort in each others' lives, is a main contributor to how attached I feel to their relationship.
Like, when Gu Won decides to go against his family's, and the company's desires, to be with her β and when she puts her trust in him to not ruin her life with the major social, economic, and power imbalance hanging over their relationship β I can really believe why they would. I can't help but believe in the strength and longevity of their relationship in the face of all of these obstacles, because of all the time they've already spent as a couple. In a way, it feels like it grounds the relationship, for it seems closer to showing what a mature, healthy, loving and stable relationship should be like when two people are all-in for each other, and are certain about their choice in a partner.
This drama's been a real source of light to me in these darker months, making me smile and laugh when there wasn't an awful lot else to smile and laugh about. I think I'll feel a little bereft when the last few episodes are out and it's all over, but I really do hope this will be a simple, sweet and funny story I can revisit time and time again in the future.β‘
Loveeee this drama to bitsπit's got me smiling, laughing and blushing along so hard every week; I love its depiction of love through adversity. All of the intimate little scenes of mature and wholesome fluff and sweetness that we've seen all along has added such a sense of real strength and fortitude to their relationship.
The sad fact is when the comments section is like this the people enjoying the drama just don't bother commenting…
If you'd both read and understood my point, you'd understand that I wasn't calling all negative comments bad, hateful or toxic; I explicitly said that I wasn't objectively right in finding it interesting. I'm objecting to the kind of comment that is criticising the "lazy writing", or criticising people who are enjoying the drama. While I disagree with you, and find it pretty baseless when you say there's no substance (as I, again, outlined in my original comment), I'm not fighting against your right to leave a negative comment; I'm only against what I'm calling the toxic negativity, which I consider a different thing altogether.

I completely agree. I think my tumblr's accidentally become a bit of a King The Land stan account recently, honestlyπ so many pretty GIFs on there! I like utilising the block button on there, too, if I'm encountering too much of what I don't like.

Right?? I don't go to just MDL to talk about dramas β the r/KDRAMA subreddit often does week-by-week discussion threads, or I go on tumblr, where there are often pretty GIFsets or meta posts; but when the toxic negativity is big in a place, I feel like it can drown out a lot of the love.
I've been trying to express how much I like it pretty openly, especially in the hopes people who agree with me with find it. I think this has been the one time I haven't done that, because β while I do believe people should be able to express negativity, but it's when people are rude about the people enjoying it, or rude about the creators that really gets me. That's overstepping a line for me.
absolutely right and well written comment. i can see this drama is a romance to the bone, and yes , there is little…
Thank you! And honestly, I feel you massively on that. I watch a lot of different dramas to scratch a lot of different itches β sometimes I'm in the mood for something more violent, sometimes I'm in the mood for β¨dramaβ¨or a riveting fantasy romance β but sometimes, all I need is a nice and fluffy romcom, and this drama's been serving me perfectly on that recently,
