I've only seen Arthur Chen in Legend of Awakening (it was a so-so drama) and so I didn't have much hopes for this. However, I gave it a try. It took me till ep 8 to finally see the romantic tension between the leads and it's getting sweeter as we go. I find Arthur Chen lost a lot of weight (at least since Legend of Awakening) that I nearly didn't even recognize him. I hope this is just his normal weight but I do like his subtle expressions here. I didn't really like his character and portrayal in Legend of Awakening. I find him more improved here perhaps the script suits him more.
ML always put his hand inside the pocket😁....I haven't seen him taking his hand out...from ep 1 till ep 24..😁😁😁...may…
Allen Ren explained in his interview that he chose to put his hands in his pockets like that because he felt it was awkward to be walking with them just by the sides. If he held them back, that's what they did in the ancient period so it didn't match the republican times. So he thought having hands in his pockets seem more suitable and adds a bit charisma on Lu Yan
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fijf6txI_O0 Here is an interview with Allen Ren released yesterday. No Eng subs. In it, he explores his character as Lu Yan and expresses what I've always seen in Allen Ren on variety/reality shows- he is a very humourous person and laughs at himself a lot. He is absolutely not a cold or shy person. He was asked during the interview if Lu Yan loved Yun Shi or Deng Deng? He said that if this show only had one absolute certainty, it's Yun Shi. He said Lu Yan loves Yun Shi and whatever reincarnation she becomes, he would protect her. And he clarified that Lu Yan didn't start to genuinely care for Deng Deng until he got confirmation that she was Yun Shi's reincarnation.
To some viewers- the debate on whether he loves Deng Deng for who she is- Allen Ren's answer may disappoint them. And if the show were to explore this indepth, we can see a possible 'break up' where Deng Deng questions that Lu Yan cares for her because of her soul and not who she has become. Perhaps a bit of a critique here but I found the part where Deng Deng discovered she is Yun Shi's reincarnation a bit flat. I expected more of internal conflict realizing that she's not human and she has yet to come to her senses that the Spirit people are her people and she has a duty to protect them, etc. That seem to have fallen onto Lu Yan- granted because he has the power now but still, she is wandering abouts as if they are just a different race of people - not a threat but not a friend either.
Key takeaway from the interview is that Allen Ren explained some of his choice of acting, why his hands are often in his pockets, why does he do a little side head tweak motion and how he understands Lu Yan as someone who is completely alone without real friends (unlike Deng Deng) who has a whole party of them and it's like he exists as just himself. Even if you can't understand it, just watch it as his body language tells you a lot about who he is. A simple and a happy guy!
It got removed from it's platforms in china ,, what that tells youand touching female co stars breasts isn't a…
There is a lot of unnecessary hate on here. I see certain posts from people who hate it, but somehow was still watching it for days to comment. A certain scene that was rehearsed numerous times and obviously with the approval of the female co-star is seen as a giant SH. Is it still SH if there are kissing scenes, a hug, hand holding? Oh no...those are acceptable because it's part of the script.

It means absolutely nothing that a drama gets removed means it was terrible. Think about all of Zhang Zhe Han's shows. He was canceled. Think about certain BL dramas that got removed despite the popularity. Thankfully, I can find the whole series elsewhere and will finish it.
For everyone who criticized Allen Ren for his acting as being boring, monotone and apparently not acting with his eyes or that his voice doesn't work as a general- you all seem to forgot that his character is meant to be this way. It was mentioned early on that as a result of living the three thousand years for having something in him that it's natural and not for a mortal being- it has side effects. Chief ones being his personality may change and he may grow cold and seem cold. And some may say, well there have been 'cold/stoic' characters being portrayed and have done a better job, well they were not portraying Lu Yan. This is who he is. If you doubted that Allen Ren can't act, you haven't seen him in Miss Crow- arguably my favorite and One and Only where he's awkwardly adorable when it came to romance.
Ok I have only watched up to ep 8 but if YDD is the reincarnation of YX, they’re still two diff people with…
If you look back to before he confirmed YDD was Yunxi, he was starting to care for her. He wasn't merely protecting her on the belief that she has Yunxi's soul. He started buying her her favorite food and he felt guilty for nearly killing her in order to extract Yunxi's soul from YDD. In the short time he's known her, he knew what she would do next/say next.
How is YDD not Yunxi? To be honest, until now I didn't understand, why would anyone think that YDD is not Yunxi?…
YDD is Yunxi's soul in a new body (still looks like her). However, she doesn't have her past memories and was raised as a human and so her personality is very different than that of Yunxi. So YDD is and is also not Yunxi
I think it is really her but her memories were somewhat sealed. Idk but I think we will know after new episodes…
She is Yun Xi as reborn. It's normal for a reborn to lose all previous memories. Given she reborn as a young child, her powers are probably somehow sealed and raised to believe she is human and is the daughter of a spirit hunter/master.
I am enjoying that FL and her companions are so terrified of LY and coming up with ways to protect themselves- is so futile. They've seen what he is capable of and yet, they can't help but do whatever they can (however silly it looks) and the rumors/legends about LY makes him super terrifying.
First 8 episodes watched- that's 25% of the drama done. I like it so far. Love the OST, probably my fave from Allen Ren. Pacing is fine, it's not unnecessarily draggy. The humor is not over the top for me and FL isn't as annoying as I have seen before. I'm not a huge fan of Li Qin but she is capable of acting really well given the right script. I've seen enough of her that I haven't seen a breakthrough role for her but she isn't terrible. I see a blend of Blue Whisper (think about Allen Ren being forced to subjugate by a woman again) where he has magical powers and Zhou Sheng Chen - being in his armour.
I am over the moon that Allen Ren has dubbed himself for once! I don't recall him ever dubbed by himself in period/historical. He has in the recent modern day dramas which I enjoy.
I have seen way worse. That's CDramas for ya. Let's break this down: Have you ever been in a room full of men?…
I back you. I am a woman myself. I don't get all the hate and outrage of this drama. I choose to watch this on my own criticism. The bra strap scene was written in the script. I've seen worst dramas treating women terribly but often they are scripted. I care nothing for Douban ratings because they are not reliable in assessing whether a drama is worth 2 cents. I enjoy this drama for the male friendship and bonding. 21 episodes in and we haven't even seen a kiss scene from Zhang Han - unlike some dramas that have you kiss and touch each every other minute. Why doesn't anyone complain about those dramas as being sexual harrassment. People toss out sexual harrassment like it's a light term to accuse someone with and not have consequences. Give me a break.
some may complain allen doesn't do many kiss and skinship scenes but i still support the actor and watch his dramas…
It looks promising. I see his character here a blend of Zhousheng Chen and Cheng Yi (his most recent past roles) which arguably are one of my faves from him. I don't always like Allen Ren but where I enjoy him the most is the fantasy element.
