I came for Ji Chang-wook, but I am leaving for my own sanity. Look, The Manipulated isn’t bad—the production values are crisp and the pacing burns fast—but the core premise is violently allergic to my taste buds. Watching an innocent guy get flawlessly framed, gaslit by the state, and thrown into a concrete box to spend the next several episodes screaming his innocence into a void? Absolutely not. It is giving me aggressive flashbacks to when I dropped Defendant for the exact same systemic misery. I can handle a high-octane chase, and God knows I love a good vigilante tearing down the corrupt, but I refuse to sit through an emotional endurance test where the protagonist is just a helpless scapegoat for half the runtime. For the sake of my blood pressure, this is a firm, respectful pass.
